Real World Trading

I've been wondering about the auctioning of items in this random loot game.

Random loot means that people will likely at some point acquire something awesome and possible want to trade it to somebody else for some sort of gain or barter.

I've been following Diablo 3 and Path of Exile and the vibe I've got from both developers is that Online-Only games create a safe and secure play environment.

I would argue that only online games have these third party RWT behind the scenes auctions going on.

On a side note: we've recently seen hacker group Anonymous attacking video game servers for information and I think that was a message that should be taken seriosly. I can think of a handful of games that I had my personal information invested in and got hacked and I would like to see tight security for online only games.

And not only for my personal information but also for RWT auctions. As I already stated... It's probably going to be happening. If not in the game then likely on 3rd party websites. Unless the Devs have thought up a new cool way to deal with it. I'm still on the fence but I anticipate to appeal to the approach Blizzard is taking and I'd like to see real world trading brought to PoE asswell.

So what are your thoughts about it. Please let me know.

My position is kudos to forum trading and I hope RWT works out for the devs and for us. Because they need to make money too! How else will they keep everything secure and up to date =]

Take care

Inevitable in online games.
As long as no one in GGG does something stupid like download random stuff in their e-mail, the script kiddies won't be able to DDOS them. It is only inevitable if you have someone stupid enough to download random files.

....... I have no words.
There is no reason to control RWT at all. Blizzard did it to leech more money because there is no reason at all to make it saver for guys to "cheat" your game.

GGG games claimed they want a competitive PvP enviroment what means that if they want to be taken serious they have to invest to act against it, instead of encouraging it to squeeze in a little bit more money.

If you have ever read the ToS of current games you know that they can more or less do what they want to you. That means ban every one that is attempting to RWT. It will not solve anything, but at least it will make it less save.
I don't think any other company is willing to take the risk of implementing such a ingame Real World Trade system that Blizzard will be doing with D3. As far as I know, it hasn't been done on such a big title before.

I'm sure if it becomes successful, other companies will follow in their footsteps.

Magic The Gathering: Online and Entropia Universe.

I dont want such a trading mechanism in loot game, because it will kill ingame currency trading.

I wonder about this too! :D
Here's an interview with Chris Wilson for anyone who has not listened to it yet.

So what I've learned is that there wont be a direct currency in the game. There will instead be barter items that you can find in the loot table.

The questions I have is, can you give items to people for free or is there a required barter ammount for each item? If it is free to give anyone an item there will be nothing to stop that trade being used for real money on the side through a 3rd party website for Real World Currency. If that were the case it would also mean some item's will be quite expensive and rare to find in legitimate in-game trades, and also on the alternative trading websites. D2JSP.org is an example of the type of forum I am talking about and it's where most of the behind the scenes D2 trading went down.

Do you agree? Did I miss something? What can be done about this or should we try to embrace RWT like Diablo 3's Real Money Auction House?

In the Interview posted above Chris mentions that the team has begun working on an actual trade system for the game but specifically says it will not be at all like the one in Diablo 3. I'm just worried RWT behind the back of the real community could ruin the game.

Honestly, real money trading has always existed, and will always exist, and it's not cheating in any sense of the imagination.

I'm not a fan of pay to win, simply because jobs are not a meritocracy... people who work very hard can get paid very little, and people who barely work or know anything at all get paid very high.

In an ideal system those that play the most and play the best gain the most, but in any game if you can trade at all, you can buy stuff with real money.

It really comes down to do you trust the third party vendor or do you trust the company? People will still seek out auction houses external to blizzard so they can avoid the surcharge.
