Rain of Arrows best AOE attack for bow?

Someone mentioned a carcass jack somewhere, carcass jack almost denies the aoe penalty of conc effect (2/3rds), if you've got aoe nodes around you can actually make it a positive increase.

Of course that means you are kind of stuck with carcass jack and have to learn aoe nodes, so pick your poison.

Even with carcass jack the circular nature of RoA is just inefficient.

Split Arrow has arc control, and additionally with chain the projectiles are auto-targeting with fairly high range. It's extremely efficient.

-LA with LMP+Chain is at 24.5% damage effectiveness (0.7*0.7*0.5) but can hit the same target up to 9 times (very rarely, because target cap per LA arrow is 4). So at maximum potential, you will be dealing 220.5% damage effectiveness BUT only against 4 targets. Conditions like distance between targets and number of targets will greatly decrease your damage potential per target. LA's efficiency comes from you being able to kill stuff off-screen better than any other skills. If fireball would explode each time it chained, it would have overshadowed LA by quite a large margin.

In my post I said do LA pierce, not chain. You'll be at 49% damage eff. per hit, deal almost as many hits on big packs than if you would chain, and your mana pool will thank you. Pierce does need deep and large groups of mobs to work best, but that's easy to do when kiting mobs...

LA with LMP and Chain and Life Gain on Hit is almost immune to reflect actually, since each individual shot does very little damage, but it overlaps a lot, so you get great damage, and because it overlaps so much LGOH gives you so much hp back, and it's instant.

Never tried it in high level maps though.

I have tried RoA, and do I like it some extent, but it just does not cover as much as what Split Arrow does. LA is dangerous against reflect and thorn, so I avoid it like a plague.

My secondary weapon is Explosive Arrow since it reminds me of IB, but without the bodies exploding. With Elemental Proliferation as its support, it became the perfect crowd control for me. Not only that, but seeing groups of mobs on fire is intense, especially in dungeons where the effect stands out even more.

Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

LA is IMO by far the better AOE attack for bow, but its more risky compared to ROA (read thorns),

both builds require ofc that you pay attention(read reflect), but ROA is the safer choice.

You choose what you can handle, and/or that which will give you most fun in the game.

high dps and -max maps will instantly obliterate you for reflect. a single attack vs a medium sized mob with 2 thorned monsters on a -max map will also probably instantly kill you.

Check out my LA build: 1782214
For pure physical AOE I have found that GMP puncture outdpses both ROA and split. My build gives 10k dps with just the initial hit tooltip. Add vulnerability and it becomes more OP. the biggest benefit is that it can also kite much better than the first two.
