Open beta

So I've read the FAQ and i know that it says there is no determined date. But i was watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Pb4sRdyHU0&feature=youtu.be

And chris said at 29:43 that it would be around January/February next year. And this interview was last year.

So his estimate is off by nearly an entire year..

Anyone know why this is? did they run into certain problems that would have made it difficult to go open 8-9 months ago?

In my opinion, it's simply a case of GGG wanting to get it right prior to release, and that process is taking longer than anticipated. The game has made significant progress in several major areas, so it's not like things are stagnant. No worries here.

But open beta isn't release.

I'm sorry that we're delaying the start of Open Beta (again), though as much as I want to see it released, I would much rather release a high quality product.

I don't want to commit to a new date estimate today. I'll update with a better estimate as soon as we have one available. It won't be too much longer - you can see based on our progress through the patches that we're getting pretty close!

This might have been the latest information, given to a OB release date.

I understand. And yeah i can see that they are making a lot of progress. If it's up to 0.9.12 that means its really only one major patch away. Then a week away from that if the estimate is correct.

for a free to play game with no wipe after open beta it sort of is

You shouldn't rely on what they said months ago only because, they are simply human and it is their game. They want to make sure that the game is 100% ready, comfortable, and prepared for an Open Beta or Launch Day.

I would only believe and know 100% when they officially confirm a date or quarter.

In my opinion, I have a feeling Open Beta will be announced in December of this year or January 2013.

I agree here. Act 3 is pretty much ready, I know they have been balancing PvP and the game has taken leaps and bounds from where it was this summer. I was hoping for the August OB but after all the changes I really want it to be done for OB. Not pull a Blizzard and completely change the game post release and ruin the economy.

Honestly, its worth the wait and I would rather have a great release then too early. So take your time GGG. keep doing what you have been!

Funding anticipation. They didnt know how much money they would have a year ago. More money equals more employees to share the work load and the game releases faster.
