Cybils Paw block question

Hey

Im trying to build a cybils paw blocker and a question arose.

Does the spell block chance count as block to increase spell dmg? Because its really possible to do a high mellee block + high spell block chance with unique itens .

Thanks :)
Spell Block is not Block. That's why they have different names :P
Vipermagi is correct that it only counts your block against attacks, not spells. Vipermagi is incorrect that they have 'different' names, though. They're basically the same name. It's like saying Lightning damage isn't damage.

Why would it only count block against attacks? The description only speaks of "block chance", not mentioning whether against attacks or spells. If your wear Saffell's Frame you cannot block attacks but still have 26% block chance. That block chance is now applied to spells, but it still is a block chance that cybil's paw should be influenced by.

That's not how it works. It uses your final 'block' chance, as in your chance to block attacks.

I just tested it with my witch:
dps with cybils paw and no shield: 1555
dps with cybils paw and a shield with 24% block and 27% incr.spelldam: 1832
dps with cybils paw and saffell with 26% block and 24% incr.spelldam: 1848

So C.P. conversion of block to spelldamage works although saffell applies block to spells instead of attacks. My guess is C.P. do what the description says, they increase spelldamage by block nomatter if the block is applied to attacks or to spells.

They have "basically" the same name, but also "literally" a different name.

Let's say they introduce a Unique that doubles your Increased Lightning Damage. It will not double your Increased Damage, because that's something else. You can tell, because it has a different name ('Damage' as opposed to 'Lightning Damage'). They are still mechanically the same core modifier, but that's not the point here.

Similarly, Cybil's Paw explicitly reads your Block, not your Spell Block. Whilst Spell Block is still the same mechanic as Block, it is not exactly the same and it does not count, because it's not Block. Instead, it's Spell Block. You can tell they're different because they have different names.

The comparison was invalid anyway.

Lightning Damage is a subset of Damage.
Spell Block is not a subset of Block.

In normal speech, 'spell block' is obviously a type of block. It's only because GGG has named a specific type of block 'block' that the confusion arises.
