Probably because xfire is a remnant of the times d2 dominated, so people who loved d2 used it as well, or were more likely to.

had no idea what Xfire is. still don't.
and I was hopelessly addicted to anything Diablo since the first time I opened a door and heard "ahh! fresh meat!".

Yea, just meant that the peak of d2 was close to the peak of xfire, so they would have had more exposure to eachother /shrug.

Don't know anyone who uses xfire. I know I never have nor will. It's not an accurate source of information concerning populations. Don't really see why this matters anyways.
I had the worst ever performance while running poe and xfire, unplayable here.

I'm not sure why anyone uses xfire, maybe I'm missing something. What does it offer?

I had to go search for what xfire is. When D3 came out everyone was quoting xfire stats to prove the game was dying as well. That being said, if you look at the stats on there, the number of players has cratered in the last month. It went from 842 hours per day at the beginning of September...to 55 a day for the last week. I thought things had seemed really quiet the last few weeks. With the leagues ending, release right around the corner, and GTA 5 being released, I guess a lot of people are taking a break.
