It's a character, not a toon.

Yep. Toon makes me twitch. Every. Time.

Things that are just as quick/easy to type but make you sound less like an artard:
Ava
Char
Main
Alt

And/or refer to him/her by their gender and/or spec/class.

I wish chat had a filter and/or auto-ignore feature.
Wow people get upset over the wierdest shit.

I think 'toon' is just easier to type out than 'character' or if you did 'char' peeps (whoops!) wouldn't know wth you are talking about. Does 'main' or 'alt' piss you off too?

Get over it. Way more important things to worry about, I think.

Main bugs me more than toon because there's a playstyle assumption tagged to it,I don't have a main with alts I play all my chars randomly.

More than six people can't decide where to eat dinner. Now try a gaming community in the millions. (Not just this one.)

I can't even decide by myself what to eat for dinner. Sometimes I get so hungry that I feel the next meal must perfectly satisfy my tastebuds, and I don't even eat anything for fear of getting it wrong.

There are no alts though since this is not a MMO. There you have 1 char you do everything with but here you reroll and reroll and have multiple main chars. So the terms main and alt are redundant. I have a fav first char i started with but thats it (always bow class).

"Ava" is a name.
"Char" is a fish (or coal made of wood, or even a cleaning lady); plus, it sounds ridiculous when used as plural: "Chars"
"Main" and "Alt" denote play style, i.e. how frequently you play a given toon.

Getting around the "problem" (which is only a problem for anal-retentive bungholes anyhow) by going up and down the hyper- and hyponym highway is in itself stylistic suck: "I like it not when you say 'blue'! Say "aquamarine" or "colour" instead!"

Hm. Auto-ignore feature. Why not? Sure would safe me from idiots who tear their bunghole when someone uses a word they don't like.

Until then, dance, artard!
Toon. Toooooooon. Toon! Toon! Toon!
Toooo-oooon! Toon! Toon.

(Seriously, if you're getting your petticoats in such a twist over the use of 'toon'... Oh, why do I even bother?)

Yes and no.
It's more that I find the general idea of "some people telling other people what they may or may not say" unhealthy, and worthy of ridicule.
Particularly when I got some free time on my hands, and the new leagues are not due for another few days. A guy's gotta keep busy.

edit: I forgot: I tend to ramble. Both of my posts in this thread are -at least for me- very short and to the point ;-).

Words have subtle meanings related to connotation. I dunno if, in this case, this is less apparent to those who aren't native speakers of English (I'm pretty sure this is a s street which runs both ways, where non-native speakers of any language may be concerned), but word choice lends dimension to what one expresses.

"Toon," to me, at least, evokes a trivialization of the character. When I hear "toon," my internal interpretation is one of contempt or belittlement. Sure, most folks dun invest that much concern into their characters, beyond not dying in HC, but it comes across as not taking things seriously, at all.

It's a little annoying, not because I care about all that, but because it jars me mentally. There are other terms which are just as useful, and less "loaded."

As for "alt," I see no reason why any one of my various characters isn't an alt. I come from a background of online MU*s, where "alt" is just a term for a character which isn't the "main," which, in the context of an ARPG, happens to be the character which I am playing at the time (alts being any other characters to which I might switch). Those who have an MMO background (which I do not) likely have a different, familiar and comfortable interpretation of the term.

As for my undergarments, they remain untwisted. =^[.]^=

Glad it doesn't make you get jarred physically, that would probably be significantly more unpleasant. Has anyone ever told you that you are a beautiful and delicate flower before?

Well now they have. Please don't allow yourself to get mentally jarred by my post :(
