Why are there no physical bow skills?

A long time ago, there was a skill that was almost completed called "Snipe", and it was found in the game files. It did x% more physical damage per frenzy charge and consumed your frenzy charges to do so.

Hopefully it gets finished/brought back from the dead some day, because Frenzy and Puncture is slim pickings for physical archers.

Not sure why Frenzy is getting no love.

L20 Q20 Heavy Strike = 95% Increased Physical Damage and 15% Increased Attack Speed

L20 Q20 Frenzy = 12% Increased Physical Damage and 18% Increased Attack Speed PER CHARGE

With 7 Frenzy charges that's 84% Increased Physical Damage and 126% Increased Attack Speed.

Which does more physical DPS?

Even if you choose to only have 3 frenzy charges, you're still getting 36% Increased Physical Damage and 54% Increased Attack Speed. That'd make it 59% less IPD and 39% more IAS than Heavy Strike. I'd rather have faster attacks doing less damage each because it makes it easier to avoid one shotting yourself on reflects. But I can't imagine a bow user that uses frenzy not getting at least one additional charge from Mercilous Kraytin even if you can't get any from the passive skill tree.

Heavy strike has 150% damage effectiveness. That's much better than Frenzy's 100%. Also you don't have to invest in charges for Heavy Strike to be effective. Also the mana drain of frenzy is much higher because of the increased aspd.

Frenzy is really good, but it's a relatively niche skill, and won't fit in to a lot of builds. Also, the bonus to increased physical damage from phys dmg nodes in a recent patch was a stealth-nerf to Frenzy, because its increased phys bonus is now less useful.

If puncture or Frenzy had 125% damage effectiveness, they would be the skills that the OP is looking for.

How is damage effectiveness calculated?

Its always 100% unless its specifically stated in the skill.

In RoAs case for example you would deal 75% of the elemental damage you got from items and auras.
Make a new skill called overdraw where it does % x str for physical dmg

'Damage effectiveness' is just a damage multiplier. So, for Heavy strike, you work out how much it would do normally, then multiply it by 1.5.
It's just like Heavy strike has '50% more damage'.

It's called Iron Grip, both in keystone and support flavors.

I think it would be cool if there were a skill that goes:

"+x% increased damage per additional projectile"
"Max projectiles fired: 1"

Name? BFA.

Or if made a support (oh lol EK): Concentrated fire.

the chance of the mobs 'moving' after being punctured in melee range is a lot lower than if you plink them from afar.

Not if you use 'chance to flee' :)

On my very first ranger (now resting in piece) I used puncture + fork + chance to flee. Wasn't very effective, though.
Might've been because it was my second character ever and it had other problems, too. I really liked the idea of puncturing monsters and making them flee bleeding. I think I might've to restart and perhaps go for mor critical.

Interesting to know that there was a skill called Snipe. I suggested a skill named Snipe a few months ago. :D
I really hope they develop it and it is in the release version or in some earlier patch.
