i always hope new games wont have built in voice chat. i would hate for voice chat to become the standard communication in an online game. it should be up to groups of friends and guilds to set something up outside of the game. having to listen to endless talk that has nothing to do with the game in every group im ever part of would probably make me quit playing or at least lead to exclusive solo play.

i dont see why i would want a voice chat in this game.
THe only genre where i can slightly understand it are FPS games, but even there its usually more anoying then useful. If i want to speak with someone i meet with them on a voice chat program like Teamspeak etc. Ingame voice chats are just more dev work for something that usually works way better with the other programs. |

unneeded overhead for the foreseeable future. Just maybe rent some dedicated space for teamspeak (vent is too expensive)

If you don't want to listen to it. Filter mute all. Problem solved. I don't think adding a feature for it would be bad. Besides it would never replace text. Everyone has a keyboard not everyone will have a mic.

I play some DDO here and there and most players there have a mic because the game supports in-game voice. Mics are indeed a nice feature, but audio channels are bandwidth hogs.

It depends on the game.
Is PoE a game where you need very fast reactions and hughe amounts of teamwork ? Watching the Youtubeclips, i think no, so i can live without a voicechat. It´s just not that comfortable. But on the other side, voice-chat delivers more information about the people you are playing together, their age, their intrests,... , could have been usefull back in the D2-days.
