Eldritch battery mechanics with Ghost Reaver?
" Ghost reaver is obscenely overpowered with CI. The fact that these two skills both exist makes hp builds *completley* obsolete. I don't see why CI is special in that it gets a flat 50% boost instead of simply being an HP to ES conversion like every other conversion skill in the entire game. You can recover life with potions.. Life > Energy shield. I was hoping for a skill like ghost reaver but I am still not sure it will be as good as I am hoping......

Just a speculation without testing:
CI users have tons of ES. Their only weakness is when they take damage continuously because they can't recover it. This usually happens if many mobs are around and no way to escape to safety. ES leech removes this weakness. Life regeneration is nowhere close to the amount you can get by leeching. And even if you cap it, you can basically cap it with leech even with no regen from gear/passives. It is helpful, but leech is superior when fighting many enemies at once. (Also the life regeneration nodes are getting nerfed in that patch.) The only really helpful tool exclusive for life users will remain life gain on hit, assuming this is not included in the new keystone as well. ✠ ✠ Last edited by wiggin#5896 on Sep 7, 2012, 12:46:54 PM

Anybody who thinks that ghost reaver isn't overpowered is either an ES user who wants to protect their precious OP build, or somebody who has never seen a good CI build.

Or someone who believes the devs do a pretty decent job, and is going to trust them instead of making wild accusations about how op everything is before they've even seen it.

I think we all know this is just a speculation. But it sounds like a possible balance problem to people who already know some of the mechanics of the upcoming keystone.

It has nothing to do with believing the devs. You can believe them but does it ban you from providing feedback? I don't think so. If they wanted to develop the game behind closed door, they wouldn't invite players to the closed beta.

I like ghost reaver as a keystone overall, it will help alleviate some of awkwardness of being a CI melee character. Not having to constantly disengage from combat after taking a few hits will be quite a nice bonus, as I'm expecting to jump up to around 15% life leech after 9.12 hits.
As it stands, I think Ghost Reaver needs some sort of drawback for providing such a strong bonus, maybe something like doubling the ES recovery delay, or reducing the recharge rate. Or perhaps the ES leech rate will be capped to the 20% per second of what max health would be, like how stun and elemental effects are based off what max health would be. As most ES users don't have very high would-be health, this will end up with a pretty slow rate of recharge that probably won't be enough to sustain ES in combat. |
