What could GGG do?

I think a lot of people are exaggerating, especially the 'you can't progress through merciless without RMT' faction. You can get fully equipped in decent gear for 1-2 exalts and easily beat the game.

I think "1-2 exalt" may be just a tad sparse for level 100 but I agree with the sentiment based on my experience. Despite what some people think my position has never been that of "wanting tons of easy to obtain BIS gear." I'd recommend friends who were interested in this game RMT those 2 exalts unless they were into the whole haggling thing. But other than that, I agree.

It's just an illusion though because in D2, D3 as well as PoE, the values are often arbitrary and loosely dependent on the drop rates, popularity and power of the gear or items exchanged.

I'm afraid it's not just an illusion. It appears to be a part of primate psychology... not just humans... chimps and possibly other primates also. Your argument is the same as my sons...

"Dad! <insert eye roll here> What do you care whether something was allegedly worth 1 wisdom scroll and you paid 4 exalts for it? If you had the 4 exalts and you needed the thing, what else were you planning on doing with those exalts?"

Sadly us primates seem to have some sense of "fairness" and while I cannot argue logically against what he said I know that I still won't do it and, judging from what i read here, neither will a lot of people. Neither would a chimpanzee. Why do you think people are always asking for "price checks" and whatnot?
I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

It's an illusion as in everything is arbitrary and relative. What you're talking about is some greedy <insert inappropriate adjective here> who is trying to amass wealth. If you value your exalts since they're rare, then you'll naturally gravitate towards someone who asks for less. That makes perfect sense, but if you didn't value them as much, you'd just buy it from Professor Scam! =P
I know GGG do not like screwing around with people's gear and all that, but if they want to nerf CI it needs to be the high end rolls of gear. There is no other way to balance CI and life without screwing over the majority of the players.

In other words, I'm talking about a seller. Yup, we agree.

Of course I will. And so it begins... "Path of Textiles"... No thanks.

What GGG needs to do is reduce the effectiveness of ES gradually after total ES accumulates beyond a moderate level. That would allow them to keep releasing high-ES items without the danger of OP ES stacking. The trade value of 800+ ES items would then drop to affordable levels.

For now, for GGG, it's absolutely impossible to change items that are already on the market, so instead of nerfing items, they nerfs nodes.

They dont want to change the values of items, because someone who spent 20ex buyin an ES chest will be pretty mad if because of an update the price gets reduced by 2 or 3.

But afterall, I still think that it could be the solution, and I am even willing to accept a nerf of my stuff, so people with less money don't get nerfed too, as GGG won't be nerfing anymore the nodes.

I think you misread my post. I'm not talking about changing the numerical values on ES gear - GGG can leave 800+ ES items exactly as they are and keep spawning more of them.

What GGG should do to balance ES, is to apply diminishing returns to its effectiveness at high levels when multiple ES items are stacked together. For example, they could reduce the damage absorption of high ES levels by half for each 1000 points above 5000. You'd then get the following diminishing returns:

ES - Damage Reduction
---- ----------------
5000 5000
6000 5500
7000 6000
8000 6500
9000 7000

Who said endgame? Is it when you roaming 66 lvl maps finding only 66 lvl maps and piles of crap?

I don't think so
