Offensive Character Names...

I love POE. Been playing this since closed and still love it. However, what i dont love is seeing people with names like [Removed] and Fuckingwhorewitch etc. There is a report option for people who choose these names but is anything actually done? If something is done, what exactly is it?

If the name is actually "offensive", GGG will have the player change the character name

If you see an offensive name you can use the right click report function to send it through to us. We deal with these reports right away, so if the name needs to be changed we will ask the user for a new name and switch it over. If we are not provided any options for the new name we choose a new name for them.

One of the things for what I love PoE is that there is no offensive language filter for creating a character name. It gives me the feeling of game for 21+ years old players with monsters with tits, pussies, dicks, players with nicknames like "Analwhore". You know, it creates a special atmosphere and other games look "soft" with their filters and censorship everywhere. Hope GGG will not follow the trend of adjustment games for 12+ after the release and we'll not loose naked statues, girls with tentacles etc. One thing that should be forbidden in nicknames is ofc racism and nationalism.

+ 1 to the poster above. This game with the artwork and style as it is is already a mature game, the little ones shouldn't be touching this at all. (Ofc they will anyways especially with parenting for the most part these days) but I don't want to see the censoring of names get that out of line, just for the really obvious ones like racism and all that crap.

There is a fine line with censorship, I just don't want to see it get taken to Draconian standards like so many companies do, it makes me feel I am getting treated like a child when done to ridiculous extremes.

Even I agree with most of your points. Some people uses this non-filtered names for trying to be funny by being childish, which I don't enjoy that much.

I'd argue that anyone with the mentality to name their character 'AnalFuckSlut', 'gasthejews', 'kid_raper', etc etc deserves at the very least to be treated like a child. Personally I'd shut down their account outright if it were my game.

IMHO any filter is useless, the community is really international, and any string you filter may be absolutely innocent on one language and totally offensive on the other. Even among the examples you wrote: Dick is a last name for males. Pussy is a cat. Cock is a male bird. (I'm aware that the meaning of these words are strongly depends on context.)
Any string based filter that prevents any use of a swear word excludes totally legal names.

That given, I like creative names that dare to cross the line but not quite over, as long as it is clever. As for childish, a lot of people even being over 21 are quite commonly still childish for the most part.

It's not to say that I like overly crudeness, when I see a boring offensive name my reaction tends to be one of yawn and boredom. :P But not to really jump up and down at it. My point really was just to hope the censoring doesn't ever go completely overboard and stuff gets blocked for the dumbest of reasons, as I seen a lot of companies do.

It's the internet after all, always going to have people who will just use names like that. Too often I see just the kill it all approach and it NEVER works out, just hope to see discretion/commonsence used in when a name needs to be deleted.

Edit: I guess I am a bit confused at this because we have naked statues/the half naked tentacle girls, dicks, and all other kinds of blood and gore and nastiness in the game. (The scene on Lunaris 3 reminds me of the holocaust and easily is one of the most disturbing things I seen in a game for a while) Yet if they start banning because of using a swear word .. something just doesn't sit right there.
