constant BSOD [resolved. see last post]

" low specs cause lagging. maybe an occasional client crash to log-in screen. NOT a BSOD. and not with THIS error code any way. also, those are the settings I ran with since 0.10.0 (Open Beta) - and I haven't seen a single Blue Screen until now. they even used to be higher back in 0.10.1 if I remember correctly. no. it's likely a problem with the code in the latest patch. I say this with certainty, because believe me I've checked most of the other options. Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat

problem shouldn't lie in ram (after all city of sarn is nothing compared to some of the other maps), but the solution worked for me - made it to sarn encampment through the City first time in few days (and 2nd time just to be sure it works)

Your problem is that you don't have enough computer ram. The 0.11.0 patch is needing more main memory for PoE to play without crashing. One of my computers has 4GB but only runs Win7 32-bit OS. Any 32-bit OS has only 3GB or 3.25 GB with some motherboards running XP and PoE post 0.11.0 will crash, even with 3 GB of usable ram.
My other 2 computers run Win7 64-bit and with 4 GB and 8GB total ram they both run fine. I think the ATI 3650 is way underpowered to run PoE at smooth frame rates. My slowest video is the ATI/AMD 5770 with 1 GB of Vram. I'll bet your 3650 doesn't have 1 GB of memory and that could also be the reason PoE is causing Windows to BSOD. " So what's the problem. DDR3 memory is cheap and so take the $60.00 USD (cost of D3 last year) that you didn't need to pay to play PoE and buy more ram. You can get 4 GB for under $40. What's that? Your motherboard doesn't use DDR3 ram? Well, if you insist that GGG makes PoE run smoothly on old hardware then you are expecting too much. We all want great arpg content with plenty of bling, high quality animation, sound effects, etc., and then expect all that to run smoothly on older hardware. That's not a very realistic expectation for any game. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."

" the problem there is that if the PC is old enough to have under 4 gig of ram, an old gfx card etc, they are not going to be able to upgrade cheaply, DDR2 ram(older PC stuff) is double the price of DDR3 unless you can get it second hand. If they wanted to upgrade to DDR3 you would then need to buy almost a whole new PC. Probably the cheapest thing they could try is to instal a 64 bit OS if they can. Ancestral Bond. avoiding system crash isn't quite the same as "expecting to run smoothly". i'm ok with lower or even quake-like texture quality (thanks for the tip) - i just love the gameplay
" " it was true but now, if they want to continue that, someone should add the missing "low" setting in options anyway.. i made it through the whole act III, without blue screen thanks to the texture_quality=4, got runtime error on piety, and then got blue screen on different char in the warehouses - so it's not the ultimate solution. when i can i'll probably switch to win7 64-bit, i have 4gb ram with 1 unusable because of 32-bit os, maybe that's the whole problem. |

I have full 4GB of RAM on 32-bit Win7 (OS tweak, otherwise you'd be limited to 3.25). But i only have 2.2GB of video memory, and i think that's the issue here. Also explains why lower texture quality helps. ... and further on explains, that there is a bug in the video memory management. It is somehow trying to allocate more and more of it, and perhaps not freeing/reusing the unallocated parts. Would be cool to see a video memory as a "map", if that's somehow possible, for debug purposes.
Also i have so far not seen/heard of -gc 2 option to help with this issue. Last edited by Zaflis#4314 on Jun 28, 2013, 12:11:15 PM
