Requests that involves removal of obligatory mechanics like this has already become fashion i think; another one being remove accuracy.
"This is too good for you, very powerful ! You want - You take"

Too many trolls in this thread, if you can't argue, don't post. It's a pretty good suggestion, and it could be cool if it was removed and replaced with other passives - and that isn't to take away complexity.
Not saying which is better, but the suggestion isn't stupid. Danskere: PM mig, hvis I har brug for en guild. Last edited by ongZ#0545 on Aug 6, 2012, 10:46:24 AM

" I'm gonna start: It's a lot of work to do. For what reason? This game is all about build complexity and diversity. Why even bother decreasing this complexity? You would also have to replace all stat requirements by level requirements. Now that is pretty damn bull****. In this game, stats are just way too important to be removed. If you want a modern RPG without stats feel free to create your own game. It's just not going to happen to PoE because that would imply altering the core mechanics (the so-called 'obligatory mechanics') of this particular game. |

" Pretty much sum up my thoughts. If there's no stats, then there's no build diversity. Seriously how complex can it be? Anyway the developers will never consider this idea. I've been Jay Wilson-ed.

Many people are against this and I understand completely but I will elaborate on why I dislike stats and maybe they now would agree with me.
When I build a character, I only aim for the passives, stats are just in the way of me getting them. Often when building characters, I will get stats that I do not care for only for the passives, which is somewhat of a waste. Next are the stat requirements, I am limited to using certain types of weapons, armours and gems if my character does not posses the required stats which decreases customization. I am not actually against stat themselves, I just wish that they would not be present on the passive skill tree and on item requirements, a basic stat system like Diablo 2 would work well I think. any thoughts? |

" Or the str/dex/int symbols were replaced with other passives, just like the 6% one hand dmg etc. And then you'd gain 3 statpoints for each passive you take. 3 str for the red ones, 3 dex for green and 3 int for blues. Then the stats wouldn't be removed. It's actually pretty much the same system, just without the feeling of picking the "boring" perks :-) Danskere: PM mig, hvis I har brug for en guild.

" And it was exactly the system that was in game when I started. The devs didn't like it, the players didn't like the incremental gains, and it changed. |

"That's quite close to the old system (how many points you got depended on class - marauder got more str from red passives, for example). The system had some nice points, but was ultimately flawed. Such a system massively reduces build diversity, and forces people making different builds to invest in passives which they're getting basically no benefit from to get to where they want. When all the passives are specific bonuses like that it's simply not possible to set them up in such as way that lets people make all the builds they want without having to take passives that don't work for their build, and those are made more punishing than the current system, where they'll be taking stats, which while not exciting, are useful to all builds in some way. | |
It isn't that I see the stats as boring. It is the fact that I don't see them at all. All I see is a node that I have to place a point in to meet requirements of items. Requirements that aren't all that high to begin with.
The getting a boost to certain parts of my build is incidental. I don't see that right off the bat. I have to shift into a whole different page to see any change to my character. Maybe if I knew right then and there (by seeing it) what those changes were , I wouldn't think the same way. I am just not a hardcore gamer anymore. I have gone through so many games it has become blurry for me what I gain from a "Stat" when I place points in it , from game to game. Maybe if the benefit was more obvious on the Passive sheet? I don't know. ============= I still believe this game would do good with removing stats altogether. At this late a stage though it isn't really likely. I don't see it as a simplification. I see it as getting rid of a obscure game mechanic. ============ Thanks for everyones input. I am not the best at getting across my ideas. I tend to ramble and forget the point. So it is nice having people arguing both sides of the subject. As long as they are being civil and constructive. |
