New support gem: Golem / Construct
I really like this idea, though I think taking it beyond "Walkable melee totem" would be too complicated and hard to balance.

Could have sworn I'd posted on this before...ah well, +1! Sounds like a really fun idea.

dont know about balance though, but some variation of this could benefit the game greatly. A stranger like no otherther,

Keystone passive: Doppelganger
Your golem/construct takes on your appearance, and uses your weapon(s) while summoned, as well as gaining a percentage of your passive bonuses. You cannot attack or use any skills socketed in your weapon(s) while it is summoned. Or something along those lines. :) I'd like to see a spell version as well. |

Out of the summon pets, support minion gem, and so forth, this seems like the most thought-out one.
The one bit I dislike is the part where you mentioned golemclaws or idunnowhat Yeah, that bit, doesn't work. Remove it. Instead, you could make it work as Iron Golem worked in D2: You summon it out a weapon dropped on the floor, that construct attacks with that weapon type, and it's damage is defined by the dropped item. It should be limited to white items only - this means that the weapon it was summoned out of only defines base damage/attack speed. (as well as which skills it can use depending on the weapon) |

Lucks has a cool idea, the construct using a white ground weapon. For one, that's awesome flavor, and 2 actually makes use of those thousands of white weapons abandoned on the ground of every dungeon.
Also I agree with others that constructs should be melee skills only. Ranged attacks already have the ranged attack totem so sentries are obsolete. As for people discussing inventories and whatnot, while it would be cool, that doesn't really seem like a smooth game implementation. I think a better idea would be a construct that is similar to zombies or skeletons except you only have 1, up to 3 with keystones and uniques, that are significantly more powerful or at least useful than zombies. This could even be used as main skills and support gems. The support gem Construct would be attached to a melee skill which it performs with the selected white ground weapon, which would follow the caster and attack mobs. As for the actual skill, I was thinking something similar to the mine mechanics, in that there would be a summon action, and an equip action. The summon action would create the construct, and then the equip action would be cast at pieces of white equipment on the ground, adding weapons and armor to the construct as you go. |
