Proper way to create an item ?

1. Find white item with good base stats/sockets.
2. Use 4 Armorers Scrap/Blacksmiths Whetstone on it (20% quality) YOU MUST DO THIS BEFORE THE NEXT STEP. 3. Use an Orb of Alchemy on it to make it rare. 4. If you're not happy with the mods re-roll with Chaos Orbs. 5. Once you've got that, if you have less than 6 mods on it, use Exalted Orbs until you have 6. 6. ??? 7. Profit. |

If you have a rare with less than 6 mods, exalt it up to 6, then chaos it, will you still have 6 mods or does it randomize the number again?
