There is not such thing as challenge in ARPG. All bosses are very simple constructions, straight from 80-th arcades. You don't have complex game mechanics to support any challenge, only gear checks
Go beat ghost Doku in Ninja Gaiden Black, that will give you some idea what challenge is about. Hard and unforgiving, but smart, requiring high skills and punishing only your own mistakes
ARPG skills are: making valuable build and choose the right gear suatable for particular area. Combat itself with bosses is kind of bland

5 years old can make unbeatable boss in 15 seconds. Making interesting to fight and challenging in a smart way boss is usually beyond abilities of modern devs

gradius isnt even none for difficult bosses. they are none for difficult stages and an extremly harsh death penalty so i dont get what you are trying to say

my party played against 2 unique pietys with elemental weakness mod. both pietys died in less than 1 minute. like everyone mentioned, topaz, resists, enfeeble, life/es leech, higher ES /hp pool, more damage all help.

I only have 2.5k hp, 10k armor and resists at 75/64/75/27... the only thing going for my character is a marohi, other than that he is a turd.
