What if sockets could roll white?
I quite like this idea.

+1, although 1:1000 is too low.

I made some minor changes to the spreadsheet in the OP, added the chance to roll 0 white sockets and another table showing the results in % format. I'm on a bit of a googledocs theorycrafting binge at the moment.

Why not a single use, character bound quest reward? Use it as you see fit on whatever item. Max you can have would be three obviously and once used the item is locked so no mirroring.

I feel like it isn't in the design philosophy of PoE to have an item pertaining to sockets that creates a fixed effect and isn't RNG-based. Their philosophy seems to be "as much RNG, as much as possible", and it actually helps to keep things elegant because when you know it's rng it requires very little explanation. As soon as you have to start qualifying things with "can only be used x amount of times" and other rules, it starts becoming inelegant. I don't know though, that's just my feeling of the game.
ALSO I've added onto the spreadsheet in the main post. It now includes the ability to enter in your desired socket colors, as well as the item's primary colors, and it will give you the odds of rolling them, and this is also affected by the chance to roll white sockets (if you don't want to include white sockets you can enter a very large number for white socket odds). I've had a good time making this sheet, hope you find it interesting. |
