GGG should continue ignoring PVP

Focus on PVP is always bad for online games such as this. Even if the activity is fun there are a lot of unavoidable problems with them.

You can't balance abilities for both pvp and pve. WoW has been trying to do this since launch and has never been successful. Some things are too good for pvp but need a buff for pve. Some things dominate pve but need a buff for pvp. You can only have 1 side even half-way balanced.

PVP is terrible for the economy. When players quest, grind, or run maps (pve) it stimulates the economy by providing new wealth via drops. The players than advance in levels and want to acquire new gear. In duels players do not generate wealth for the economy, further more they buy valuable items (twink gear) that might have went to an orb-farmer. Its the only activity in the game that does not stimulate the economy in any sort of way.

There is the possibility of adding PVP-rewards but that always leads to snow-balling where the players who are already strong can acquire the pvp gear while the weak players cannot and opens up the possibility of exploits such as win-trading/buying.

PVP is inheritable broken in a game where grinding determines power. Its true there is a certain amount of reaction time, strategy, and meta-gaming needed but gear is the biggest factor. Further-more in pve you are always fighting appropriate strength monsters (if you arnt you simple advance to a higher level zone or make the map harder) There is a certain amount of grinding required for pve but good positioning/reaction time is always importaint, we have been shown that no amount of godly gear can let you completely face-roll.

Twinks quickly become bored fighting non-twinks who cant defend themself, and non-twinks quickly become bored fighting unkillable opponenents. Unlike pve, where you can just add more mods to a map or advance to a high level zone, finding an appropriate challenge in pvp is diffcult and time consuming.
Apparently if a PvE monster loot games ignores PvP they get incredibly angry teen angst posted all over their facebook page.

(Looking at you D3)

I agree, this game shouldn't ever be about pvp, and neither should D3 (not that it matters here)

I pretty much stopped reading right there.

Prime example would be Diablo 2. PVP not only drove the economy. Diablo 2 was also fairly balanced in terms of pvp.

he may have been wrong about that( i dont agree either) but the rest of his post had a lot of good points that i agree with you should read it.

Also the second the focus in developement shifts from PvE to PvP in this game(meaning we start getting pvp balance patches etc..).... I'm out. Once that starts it a never ending cycle of endless QQ from both PvP and PvE players alike until in the end all variety is destroyed in the name of balance and fuck that shit.

Players should not be rewarded for casual pvp, that is obvious.

However i wouldn't say ggg should ignore PvP. Just not focus on it for now. As for D3 and WoW, D3 problem is that they promised an team arena style pvp and didn't deliver... anything, and WoW is a completely different game.

that i have to agree with if you knew your class well you could beat any other class (perhaps not the assasin but yea that was broken as hell)
While I personally believe PvP in games based on stats and gear are absolutely pointless. I understand there are a big group of people interested in this. It would be a bad idea to completely ignore it.
I think a lot of other things need to come first though.

@ the OP, If you think more outside the box than a giant AAA dev, you might realize there is actually a simple solution to all of this fuss. You could actually balance things for both PVE and PVP by simply having different sets of rules while in PVP.

PVP is never a main focus for these types of games, but it's something fun to do later on in its life cycle, and completely different items are viable for PVP that aren't in PVP which actually expands the market.

PVP is very important to a big part of the population. Thats because the endless grind can get pretty tiresome after awhile and pvp helps to change things up and give all of the grinding more meaning.

Its a terrible idea to devote no effort at all into pvp. There are some relatively simple fixes that could make pvp a lot more fun in this game. How about fixing the glaringly obvious out of balance skills for pvp only. No one wants the skills messed up in PVE. I know the devs are smart enough to make pvp better without messing up the core game.

The "not stimulating the economy" argument is completley absurd.
