Because its almost the weakest damage gem you can add for BMs, barely better than Minion Life without the secondary benefits of having more life.

In order of highest to lowest damage supports........

Conc Effect > Remote Mine > Trap > Minion Damage > Increased Burning Damage > Minion Life > Empower > Any other gem that has a generic Increased Damage
I am thinking it would be pretty damn good to put the raging spirits in a 5l/6l with zombies (due to lack of links obv and synergy).

ZOMBIE>RAGING SPIRIT>MULTISTRIKE>MELEE SPLASH>FASTER ATTACKS>MINION DAMAGE (in that order of importance)

Also since minions have regen now and leech passively we may be able to drop vitality and go for elemental auras. Raging Spirits hit really fast so I think they would have great synergy with anger/wrath......

I understand it's not the most ideal but I was wondering specifically about the comment regarding the dot changes that apparently made the gem drastically inferior? I still use the gem, since it's better than the other options I have available, I think anyways.

Anyone know what kind of damage the raging skulls do at level 20 or higher? Seems like an interesting spell if linked up or buffed with auras.
Im a 78 summoner, my passives are pretty much the same as the OPs. My zombies have 5k life and usually do ok, until Piety time. Killing her is easy thanks to Skele totem but my minions die way to quickly, even with my auras and resists on them, and life leech from passives. I'll have 3 total spectres soon from the passives and was wondering if there is a superior spectre to run with. I love running BMs as they melt trash and rares and bosses up until they die :/
Also whats recommended gem setup to fit my desecrate in...I have no room for gem usage lol.

burn used to be 1/3 of your initial hit, and with dot change its only 1/5. I just realized its irrelevant to BMs since their damage doesnt scale off a hit- so disregard my comment. even then, Moose65 is right- it has the worst damage increase %. Gem (and burning damage passives) worse after DoT changes for any build that relied on burn on 'hit'.
some random thoughts on the patch:

bone and flesh offerings. can only have one at a time tho, kind of a bummer. but boy they are powerful. sentinels and zombies go nuts with flesh offering (I call it spectre crack) and bone offering really stops high damage intake. if you really want corpses, you can use a spell totem linked with desecrate (but I still recommend rejuv totem)

Im actually not sure whether I like new AI changes. maybe Im used to old AI, but this AI is kinda a bit all over the place.

new passives: for BM users, leech is useless. for other spectes, its mandatory nodes, and regen is mandatory for all summoners. if you are choosing which nodes to not take, the chaos res for minions ones might be it, because even with boosted alchemist damage, its only one mob in the game that can do big chaos damage. compared to resists and 16% increased life, that notable is not worth it imo.

raging spirits. actually not bad for elemental builds where I cast flammability/ele weakness and add shock stacks. seems their damage is pure fire. their main problem is without fast cast they are pretty slow and their duration is so quick sometimes they barely get one attack off. but when they do, they do decent dmg.


in short, the new skills and passives definitely bring a lot of excitement, I take back what I said, I think this a pretty good update to summoners

with that said, zombies definitely arent invincible even after this update. in a mere canyon with vuln, mult. projectiles, chain and some other crap, I was falling asleep and minions were killing everything. then bammm, magic carrion queens with crits shooting chaining GMP fireballs and 4 out of my 7 zombies ripped.


What do you think??
Better using this helmet for raising zombies or a +2 gem level helmet??
