Kripparrian is playing poe!!!!
You guys are complaining that Kripp got a kiwi? A freaking kiwi?
Wow. I'm new to this game and I already feel like I'm back in the D3 forums with the elitist "me first" garbage. Feel happy that many more people are playing this game because he is putting in time to explain some of the finer points of the game whether his play-style matches yours or not. Yes, other streamers and community members have brought financial and informative help to the PoE dev team. But no one is owed anything. You payed for what was advertised when you purchased your package. Because he has something you payed for does not make this game pay to win. How is having something cosmetic make you win? Should he have said no thanks to getting a little reward? If he did would you respect him. Probably no and no. And don't go on about favoritism. It's a fact of life. your mom probably liked you more or less than your siblings. Your boss DEFINITELY likes you more or less than some of your co-workers. If you are received better you get more in life. |

" The guy that got me here :P He's streaming himself playing and making youtube-videos giving tipps and stuff. While i find watching the stream of someone else playing videogames incredible boring, i DO watch his youtube-videos. And yeah, i saw PoE - it seemed pretty cool, so i'm atm downloading the game in the background. Last edited by Rayshan#7977 on Aug 1, 2012, 6:15:47 PM

I just bought the gold pack after watching Kripp play the game on his live stream over the last week so that should cover the cost of the free kiwi Chris gave him.
I've been signed up on the site for almost 2 years and in beta for almost a year and really had all but forgotten about this game after the initial few hours I spent trying it out. After watching Kripp enjoy the game so much and hearing Chris talk to him on stream I knew this game and company were something special though and wanted to show my support. I already have two characters almost to lvl 30 and can't wait for open beta to begin so I can start playing seriously without a character wipe looming in the future. |

It would appear to me that some people are not sure how advertising works. Let's break this down into the simplest explanation of the process.
Party A pays party B to advertise/promote Party A's work. That is the baseline for how advertising is done. It is not a charity, and it's definitely not a favour. It's dirty, cut-throat and completely mercenary. Party A wants more people to know about and desire their product, Party B wants money to make that possible. I'm not saying that's what happened in this case, but let's be realistic: Kripparrian is advertising Path of Exile just by playing and streaming it. He has sufficient a following to achieve this, and I'm 99.99% sure that it has worked, given the spike in support package purchases this weekend and people coming here and saying, essentially, 'this advertising campaign brought me here.' Well and good. So onto the issue of the kiwi. I actually expected Chris to give him the gold kiwi, to be honest. Because that's $250, and you can bet your butt that GGG/PoE received easily that amount's worth of advertising by Kripparrian's streaming and playing. When I heard it was a silver, I just shrugged. A hundred bucks for so many new beta testers? That's a bargain. I own all the kiwis. I've given Path of Exile and Grinding Gear Games all the support I can, in various forms. And I acknowledge that I cannot, in any way, support the game as effectively as Kripparrian did this weekend. That's just the nature of e-celebrity these days. He's a good player, he gave excellent feedback to Chris (again, not something you can just 'buy') and all-in-all, I think it safe to say that his involvement has changed the future of this game in some way. As for TotalBiscuit, Kungen etc...sure, give them kiwis too. Heck, TB deserves something very special for what he's done, and I've just now hit the Kungen youtubes and found them the most entertaining of all. If the kiwis are meant to represent support given during the closed beta phase of this game, specifically financial, then there's no reason why GGG can't sit back and say, "well, these guys made a lot of money for us. Sure, it wasn't out of their own pocket necessarily, but it was their time and effort, in conjunction with their profile as e-celebrities, that made us that money." Ideally, yes, it would have been something else, something truly unique. And for all we know, there was some exchange of cash in the background. I can't say either way, and don't really care. All I can say is, would throwing $100 Kripp's way for his very heavy advertising of PoE be any different than tossing him a kiwi to the same value? If anything, I'd say that'd be worse for GGG. Kiwis cost GGG nothing, after all, whereas as we well know, every cent counts when it comes to PoE's development. If any of you can prove to me you've brought in over $1000 worth of support and not from your own pocket (i.e. from your subscribers and fans), I'll buy you a bloody silver kiwi myself. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Heh, some posters in this thread reminds me of the guy who loves band X until they become popular, then they suck.
The guys making this game, like bands, are trying to make money. If they have to give out handjobs on youtube to get there, just be glad it's not your hand they are using. |

A lot of the original/earlier supporters of this game are going to be upset as it starts to go mainstream. Especially with the flood of D3 refugees coming in.
What these people need to understand is this is what you want! Do you not want this game to be successful? There will be a lot of trolls pouring in, as well as very good players. Don't fall into the cliche of complaining of newer players coming and supporting this company. The "this isn't the Diablo 3 forums" stuff is just going to divide the community even more and turn it into the d3 community. |

This Kripp fellow seems of have a LOT of viewers and a LOT of them will see that he is enjoying it and want to try it out themselves, which will bring in revenue. It's a smart business move as it's basically a $100 ad investment with sure returns.
He even has a GGG dev talking about the game essentially TO all the viewers of the channel. Getting a chance to talk directly to a group who you KNOW are a fan of the genre of game you are talking about is valuable. No ethical dilemma here. "I would have listened... I would have understood!" - Scion
Have you removed Asus ROG/GameFirst yet? |

" I am in quiet awe at this analogy. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
