Is this very gear dependent all the way through or will I actually be able to do some damage?

" Damage wise it isn't very gear dependant at all for early to mid game. Since you are taking alot of damage nodes early on it makes up for "not so good" gear. This isn't my first character so i have somewhat of a stockpile of lower lvl uniques that i use to level my alts so it's a bit of an upper hand, but not needed. I hit 53 last night and i'm running with 1k health in cruel act 3 without issue. IGN: MojozBallsAreHuge

** Update **
Currently lvl 54 and after the patch change to physical damage and crits, Holy Shit! I thought this build did good damage prior to yesterdays patch.... My tooltip damage on split arrow went from roughly 760 to 1100 and i crit what seems like every 2nd or third shot and everything is just stunned all to hell... Geeked about mapping with this guy. ** Edit All i'm linking to my SA is fork, mana leech, and faster attacks... I did a pure physical SA for my current (and only) character. Seemed like everyone is doing a RoA or LA ranger so I wanted to try something different, and I was feeling reminiscent about my split arrow hunter from my TQ days. I was running fork with SA up until merciless and I realized it wasn't buying me that much, and it was hurting my DPS a lot. I linked it with FP, FA, and Life Leech until I can get a six link one of these days and throw mana leech and culling strike in the mix. I don't know how you guys can run so many auras, I'm just running grace(lvl 5) and clarity (lvl 2) right now, and that eats up half my pool. I desperately need some better gear, but I'm level 69, and I'm not having too much trouble with Merciless A3.
