Bugged chest ruins PoE's economy

Today I have a complaint and/or a question about bugged "+24343-25921% to Fire Resistance" body armours.
https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Standard/kykOEWpwS5
Since its discovery, everyone who saw it immediately stated that such an amount couldn't exist (it indicates a range of 12–17 for the T7 mod) and that the item is soon to be deleted or could even be the reason for account suspension for progressing content using it. Then TFT had their hands on it, servicing it for multiple years for an absurd fee, as they had a monopoly on it (or one more account except Jenebu). Now that they have been shut down, the situation has only gotten worse: the mirrorable source is gone, and the minimum price is already 7+ mirrors.

I am not against legacy items; those are fun. But this example is not legacy; it is straight-up bugged and gives an unfair and absurd advantage.

I am not here to ruin the fun for everyone (I mean anyone who copied it understood the risk); I am just among those who think that using that bugged fire resistance chest is unfair. Path of Exile is not a competitive game, sure, but it has the best economy I have ever experienced, and this example ruins it. I wanted to ask if you have any plans to remove it, divining the fire resistance mod to a reasonable amount, or do anything else? Surely you are not going to leave it as it is... I hope. This body armour is all it takes for any Chieftain, Enmity's Embrace build, armour stacker, etc to multiply their damage by hundreds.

This has been brought up many times already, and players want clear answers on this topic. What is GGG's position on this?

Thank you in advance!

GGG will never publically state their position on this chest. They also are likely to never touch it

reasoning:

the original source item drop was not influenced by players actions just a super rare bug(which that bug was been fixed) that required someone to both pickup the item and ID it, then keep it, so as far as GGG is concerned it is a legitimate item, it is also one that cannot be cheaply mass produced(eg split beast back when there was no split tag with some bugged implicit items)

the item was then held for years, eventually crafting methods were introduce where it was legitimately crafted into what it is now

also there are multiple threads about this chest already... there is no need to keep creating more.

fixing this would also be removing part of POE's history, it is a monument of some of the challenges this indie game has faced.

and lets be real... this item isn't really changing much for the standard economy, other full mirror builds are deleting bosses basically just as fast, probably mapping even faster as well... this one item just makes it easier than the others.

hardly an economy shaping item.

Yes, that's what I mentioned above, yet there's still no clear answer in any existing thread (which are hard to find as well). Are some of the bugs allowed and others not? Where is that line? Is it safe to invest without the risk of a sudden fix, or what do they think about that notorious power-spike item?

On my armor stacker, it's an instant x12 damage, which it originally had without any effort. Is it normal? Debatable, I guess... And there are tons of mechanics that can abuse it even further.

I mean, you're kind of right, but even for me, as I prefer build diversity and often sacrifice numbers for comfort, I've had the thought multiple times: Is there even a reason to play any build on Standard that doesn't abuse the opportunities this chest gives you?

A lot of people decided that there's none, I guess.

498 of the top ~19k that are on the ladder

also disabling the filters for just that chest... there are quite a number of characters not using on among the top 20(on DPS sort) or so not using it... and this is just the public profiles so there is even more.

don't forget the people playing standard will generally be long term players with lots of currency, they will likely want to try all sorts of builds out once they have min/maxd one to the moon, so just because they are on the ladder doesn't necessarily mean that is their most played character, some will also be trying one out, then selling the gear to do another mirror tierd character.

GGG will never respond on this, they don't want their actions to be limited to by a past statement. They are very much aware of its existence and its actual impact on the game.

as for reasons to play different builds... yes... its a game, people ultimately play it to have fun.
The bug "reported" over and over, and devs never reply , never fix

And players still persist to "report" it by open new threads once a while....

And this will continue to happen until we get the answers; I'm sure of it. Even something like: "Back in the day, our programmer Bob stayed late while coding amounts of resistances for each tier and made a mistake by typing an extra symbol. The next day, it was discovered, giving players the potential to acquire those items. After the hotfix, we decided, 'Oh well, let's leave it as it is,' because the only solution 10 years ago was a rollback for the entire server. We had our concerns multiple times but decided that it was acceptable for us because of how limited they are."

or

"In today's reality, as much as we wanted to remove these exploit items, there are no instruments to do so efficiently. We need IDs for every such chest in existence, and our Automatic Divining Machine™, used to update for example Replica Alberon's Warpath values to 1–80 Chaos Damage to Attacks per 80 Strength (previously per 50 Strength), won't work as it is coded only for unique items."

See? Not so hard. I wrote this in 5 minutes; surely GGG officials could do it too and prevent such threads to appear in the future as the problem would get the answers. What do you think? :)

I think that is, in theory, a reasonable question to put to a member of the Game Design team but will never in a million years receive a response from a Quality Assurance engineer as tbqh it just isn't their wheelhouse and it would be inappropriate for them to weigh in on it one way or the other.

While QA are happy to periodically offer clarifications on whether a particular interaction is WAI or a bug, your question - while notionally being about a bugged item - is entirely one of game design philosophy and what the company might or might not choose to do in future game updates.

So if QA has steadfastly ignored the question for years, there's likely a reason for that.

A great question for Community Managers; an okay question for Game Designers.

Not something Quality Assurance will ever address.

I don't understand why people care so much. So, someone has this cool chest piece, so what? I don't care.

You might as well complain about people who have 10 or 20 or 50 or 100 or a whole bunch of mirrors. Why do you care? Just play and have fun.

If you're jealous, then farm the required amount of currency and buy the item you're jealous of.

Behaving worse than small children.

Why are you so offended all of a sudden, my friend? I guess you're showing how you "don't care" by defending it like your life depends on it. I'm not even entirely against it; if they officially allow this exploit to remain as it is, well, I won't be mad.

Comparing currency earnings and a bugged exploit-enabling item? Makes no sense. Accusing me of jealousy? I had an opportunity to mirror it for 2 years and decided not to because I wasn't interested in builds relying only on this chest, and my armor stacker is immortal and doing more than enough damage even on a legit setup.

Who should grow up: you or me? That's a different discussion, an off-topic one. Take care!
