Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" Not at all. The AH, in and of itself, wasn't bad. Neither was the skill system. They could both have been done right and been awesome, or done the same and been awesome given appropriate support from other game mechanics. How things worked out, though, is that everything in D3 was a potentially good mechanic that could have worked IF there were other good mechanics there to support it. The result is something similar to what happens when you take a house with a basement and knock out all the load-bearing walls in the basement. Not pretty. |

Loved the instanced loot in D3. Absolutely hated the AH's
A big part of that I think was how the game was balanced for the AH's. Anyhow I am glad this game doesn't have them but this game needs MUCH better ways to trade. I know GGG won't disappoint me. Standard Forever

"We have suggested and you have confirmed that you do not matter. Shoo. "That's my point. The AH itself could have been a good feature if loot wasn't shit, if loot wasn't the only meaningful way to progress your character, and if higher difficulty levels didn't depend so much on having a certain level of gear and more on having a certain level of skill. " THIS is the problem with AH...AH by itslef is a convinient trading system...hell peoples auction items in all the forums (and some times w/o posting the timer...they just stop when they feel they like the price).... AH just brings closer the seller and the buyer and gives to all players a way to measure how good is their items...also competition brings BETTER prices for everyone....right now in PoE only the scammers "win" When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

" This is strictly a matter of personal taste but the reason I don't like an AH in item-hunting games such as this is that it becomes THE way to get better gear. The hunt becomes a sucker's bet; it's the hard way. I think the best way to acquire items should either be self-found or self-made. The AH should, at best, be a convenient way to help self-find or self-make. Once the AH is the best way to the best items, it might as well be the only way. In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

how is the AH different from trading? it just makes trading easier and bring convenience. to be honest i am sick of camping in town linking 7 items for WTS all day long...

The game is designed so that you won't get your high end gear within a short duration of playing. Same goes for buying and selling goods.
If they introduced an AH even with orbs, it would be too easy for players to sell their gear to other players, and take the work out of trading, when it is supposed to be that - work. You can use any substitutes that you like, as a matter of personal preference, but I like trading with folks face to face. Many of the good people I have come to know and enjoy spending my time with I met through trading. Sure trade chat especially since OB has often made me pull my hair out in rage due to lowballers and poor quality scammers (not that I have been scammed, of course) but enough honest folks are still around that I can trade, no problem, most of the time. I use WTB forums a lot as well to ensure I find a buyer for most of my decent gear. Maybe you're just unfortunate. Best regards. 1337 21gn17ur3

" These are the type of people that you don't see on the forums (this one anyway) very often. The ones who enjoy and do well, what others come to complain about. I'm not saying your complains aren't valid, just don't think you and others like you make up everyone in the game :P. I'd be willing to guess that at least half the population is like the above (I'm one of them btw). |
