These are also in Super Mario Bros. I forget which one they first appeared in but they've been in most of the games.

I don't believe that you can copyright a name as such, only the likeness. An old man (not copyrightable) named Uncle Deckard (not copyrightable)... I don't think that litigation would be on the table.
I also realize that GGG probably has no intention of stirring that pot, but I think that SOMEONE in the industry *cough* has a small obligation *cough* to undo some of the community damage dealt. Cain is an icon of ARPGs. Google agrees btw.. returning deckard cain as the top suggestion if you even type in 'decka' If Diablo can steal treasure goblins and other iconic characters... someone else can steal that old man and save his wrinkly ass from bad storytelling. An evil psycho leprechaun isn't a bad idea lol. Just make sure that it can do some serious damage to the player (if not kill them rather quickly). Make it a challenge with justifiable rewards.
None of this "running away" stuff. If you hit it, it goes ballistic! |

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/36763/highlight/ Over in POE, we have it better, large chests and mobs of wealth. Golden Axe was also mentioned in that thread. Yup, as I said in that thread, yet another D3 exile trying to change the game that they joined into a game that they hate and had ran away from. Why? Why? It just doesn't make any sense to me. Mod lock? POE is a constantly evolving game, so expect balance changes, buffs and nerfs STILL!
