Comparing yourself to them
Great explanation.
You fail to see how 'new' players function.
Not all of them want to dedicate time to manage excel sheets.
The game is not 'new' player friendly.
Looking up videos and guides for the next build is half the time spent.
My expectation is to have my time respected.
There is no way I can get 'better' simply playing the game.
I am lel 91 now.
For example, I have gotten multiple Divine Orbs from drops, maybe around 6 or 7 but 0 Perfect Exalts.
Before you go around saying I'll need to juice maps and shit, stop and think.
Tier 2 and Tier 3 currency specifically drops at t13 maps.
I needed to research a damn build I like to play so that I can 'explode' maps.
I don't have to research shit to get better in Elden Ring or Monster Hunter, Well, MH Wilds is another rant, but meh.
I just needed to get better.
Hell even in ARC Raiders, the most annoying shit is other players, and not the game itself.
I just can't understand why does a game expect players with limited time, to limit themselves because it needs offline reading (off game reading).
In short, grinding feels like work instead of actually gaming.
Example, the Bone pit boss with earthquake or earth shatter. Fucking annoying when there ground is off by some pixels and you 'cant' hit it. I have no idea how many time I had to experiment with that shit because the damn boss is at an edge where you can't hit the ground.
I have just rerolled another Warrior, and can't decide if I want a Smith or Warbringer.
Also, I can't for the life of me figure out why I can't create fissures with Shield Charge, but Stampede can.
Maybe you are right, I'll just need to spend a good afternoon to read up on all those Tiers and possible combinations.
Or just fade out, saying this isn't the game.
I am not saying the game should be for everyone. I am saying that the game is unnaturally skewed to players who want to play the system rather than the game. Probably just annoyed that I can't do shit in game without researching 2 hours outside of the game lol.
Anyways, here's to the next league starting soon, hopefully.
I think you have a misconception as to what poe is, the system is the game, poe is about acquiring knowledge of the system and best using it. This is why anyone who has large amounts of time to put into the game understand the systems. Reading/Research will only get you so far as you need mechanical knowledge as well, maven is a good example of this from poe1.
PoE2 is brutal and a slog because all the systems arn't in the game and there are pitfalls for newer players that will brick there builds and fun. GGG hasn't really put in guard rails to stop you eating shit.
PoE is a game that will actively waste your time, your mindset should be to exploit the game and reduce all possible wastes of time (this is why people dislike the direction of combo playstyles imo). In saying that, if you are casual you will find that economy wise (trade) items get cheaper over time and the ceiling for your build passively increases.
Lastly - You don't need spreadsheets, you don't need guides, you just need to absorb and understand how you interact and exploit the systems. I started off in PoE1 blind about a year ago and i wish now i could go back to that, the more you understand the more you want to play.

As others have said, the game is not at all new player friendly.
That on its own is fine but then you have the MANY balance issues and the absurdity of the "crafting" system.
I played on release of EA and as a new player rolled out a titan with mace skills. After 2k hours sunk into the game I quit because I reached a point where I realised EVEN IF I was to RMT and buy the best gear for my titan, he would still perform like trash compared to any of the cast on X meta builds.
I come back about a month ago and it seems mace skills/melee are still in the same state and actually a lot worse in several cases like the nerf to Giants blood. Seeing Giants Blood nerfed (half life bonus from str) really makes me think the devs are completely clueless. Meanwhile cast on X builds are even stronger.
So yeah it really seems like the options for a new player are smash you head against the wall until you get lucky drops to trade for the most bare minimumly adequate gear, RMT to play the build you want and be semmi viable or play a cookie cutter cast on x build that needs 0 investment in defense and only requires moving forward as entire screens are wiped effortlessly.
And of course everyone who enjoys the imbalance and plays the cast on X builds has no issue with the game, the people who get lucky crafting have no issue with the game. To them its just "l2p, i bought a winning lotto ticket you can too hur dur git gud"
Anyway like before I'll be back in a few seasons and see if the games gotten any better but after returning this time only to see melee having been made worse than it was at launch.... I don't expect things will improve and I have NEARLY no faith in the dev team.
Here's to holding out hope that melee gets some attention.
As i said, stop comparing yourself to someone else, and game magically will become a lot more enjoyable.
There are guides everywhere for crafting, Even i have my own Guide, super simple super basic crafting that doesn't even need guide, and very profitable because cost per craft attempt is very low, while result can make you x50-100 as much as cost of 1 attempt.
Or you want currency to be given you for free? Why even playing then?
Idk what even say about rmt, its insanity that you think you need to rmt to play the game.
I have couple thousand divs in my stash, i could play spark coc comet or other meta crap, but i play melee chronomancer with two 2h maces, because i don't give a sh*t about div/h or doing temple, or doing best most optimized farming start and playing build that does it fastest, im not rushing anywhere.
Everything makes more currency than i will ever need, all i did this league was abyss and most basic crafting that explained in guide i linked above, literally most basic sh*t:
1. Get good magic rarity item.
2. Slam Essence.
3. Desecrated.
4. Slam 2 exalts.
If someone need guide for this, how they even managed to use computer to open browser, make account, create forum thread and complain about economy.
It's a bit naïve to say a person shouldnt compare their performance in game to someone elses, especially when the performance is very directly tied to character selection and build. I also don't think you really believe that either. When one character type can clear conent easier and faster than another, anyone playing the weaker character now has to play longer to make the same progress. It's a seasonal game, people have lives outside the game, so time to progress is not infinite. It makes perfect sense that people compare to others.
As to the crafting and currency, all i see is "RNG RNG I got lucky and so can you" I get it, you were able to afford to "craft" enough gear that you hit enough jackpots and turn proffit. But it's still all RNG.

I never really compared my build to someone elses, nor do i care how fast or slow it is. I like playing with maces, so i play with maces.
Each league lasts 4 months, its more than enough time to progress and do all you want. Even if you play 1 hour a day, and play slow build, you will clear 5-6 maps in that hour, or 150-180 maps a month. Make it 4 hour, now you clear 600+ maps a month, and league last 4 months.
Im old/experienced player, for me leagues end within first week because progression is so short that i reach the point where grind is pointless very fast and i'm not really tryharding or grinding for 15h a day, it's just making currency is so easy and gear accessibility is even easier that even with barely any effort my progression ends in 1 week or less.
So i will happily play slow build to make progression longer while also playing build i like more.
For average player leagues last 1 month, so i see no point in grinding like a maniac by using best fastest meta crap build and then get bored in a week or less. 4 months is more than enough time to progress playing slow build 1-2 hours a day, and if you play trade and spend that 1 hour to find and read crafting guide, you will make yourself more currency than you need in no time.
Crafting is not much of RNG if you know what you doing. Using currency almost always makes more currency if you use it on items that people use and willing to buy. That crafting guide i made explains most basic cheapest crafting, and its insanely profitable - period, because how cheap is crafting attempt and how expensive end result might be.
At this moment making currency is insanely easy, all you need to do is farm bunch of maps with abyss tablet, find that Amanamu's Void rare that will sooner or later drop Omen of Light, sell it for ~33 Div, and now you have budget for 10-30 crafting attempts depending on what you crafting, and you will guaranteed to get more from it simply because of volume and low crafting cost, and then just keep crafting and selling and never worry about currency again.
Low budget crafting always worked and always will be.

This is weird, go play ssf? You don't respect your own time. As for the crafting stuff, rng crafting that is slightly deterministic is not crafting, it's not even close to PoE1 crafting. Also saying just go farm omens isn't easy for a lot of people (esp new people). You would be better off teaching people how to flip in general, they would then learn more useful information about items and trends of a given league. Crossing your fingers that rngjesus gives you the craft you want is a horrible way to play.
As for people going on about comparing to others, for me this is a dumb argument, i compare against myself. I want to do better and be better. If i know i can reroll/respec to one of my own builds and do better then the current build feels like a slog.

wearing my conspiracy guy hat. i swear there's a hidden modifier roll at toon creation that heavily influences luck. i've had toons that have incredible steadiness with drops and good luck on crafting rolls. other toons they're flat broke and many rolls are bad. can't prove it! only anecdotal evidence. which is the best kind of evidence ;)
I have the same feeling not only for PoE2 but for PoE also. I had this little rule that "second one is the blessed one". Each league my second char got better all.
No its no proof but there is something in the water.
