So you think you're tanky do ya?

who wants to do a map like this, or thinks they even could??
minus max, pen, triple damage including chaos, speed, delirium, bleed, poison, stun buildup, armour break, and FIVE HIDDEN RANDOM MODIFIERS

my question is, why do the modifiers remain hidden exactly? thats kinda weird. guess i'll take a hit on the xp trying to complete this map, lol

Spoiler

i do love how much you can juice up maps, if you so choose. its much better than what others think. you can get some craaaaazy outcomes here.
imagine doing these mods with an expedition on top? getting expedition mobs with more remnant modifiers? i think that might just be impossible

so right now ive basically made it my goal to make a successful build as tanky as you can possibly get, in order to handle ANY map mods, but more so any combination of map mods

now i know people are just going to say, stack ES, and i disagree with it. but even if it is true i've already decided to not go an ES build. sticking with life.

something im realizing real fast is, the amount of life you have is literally the worst and last 'tank' stat you should focus on, which is pretty weird for an ARPG. you'd figure its the most basic stat that you'd instictively raise first if you want to stay alive more

the way poe2 deals with life, since its so difficult to scale its actually the least efficient to stack.
my build i started out wanting as much life as possible. i had reasonable armour/armour applies to elemental and stuff like that, but wanted my life pool to be as high as i could. utilizing leech and Couture of Crimson for overleech i was able to get a life pool of 6,002.
but that life pool could evaporate very quickly, even with 15,000 armour.

i made some changes and am now focusing on armour and armour applies to elemental/chaos as a primary tank, with life basically being left out.
dropping down to 3,000 life but having nearly 60,000 armour the felt difference is immense.

when i fully deck myself out i imagine i may only end up having 2,700 or 2,800 life, but i should have around 65,000 armour with 55-60k applying to elemental and about 20k applying to chaos.
since its so much easier to scale armour and the base values are so much higher, the effect and efficiency is so much greater compared to life which feels more like a trap than anything

this leaves items like Veil of the Night literally completely useless. i know its a bit of a meme item but honestly i'd love to make it work.
but not being able to scale your max life pool by much forces you to go much more into mitigation and it also leaves you much more wide open for one-shot potential.
not only that, but anything which takes a flat amount of life away, like skill costs for example, become that much more detrimental the lower your life pool is to begin with.

i really hope GGG can appropriately address the life scaling issue in the future, but just know right now i almost consider it a dead stat or trap stat for a build that wants to be tanky

It's funny how there are plenty of ES nodes in the passiv tree to push your ES, but not a single life node to push your life. As long as they don't change that, armor/life will always be bad compared to ES, there is nothing to scale with life except for your gear.

well, i don't entirely agree
because life and ES are not the same thing, they're not totally equatable. ES is more a defense than a life source. meaning it is the base stat on a piece of equipment, just like armour and evasion, and thus has scaling similar to it as well.
it is used more like a life pool, but its quite difficult to scale defenses on ES builds outside of just stacking pure ES, because it is a defense in itself. so sure you can get 20k ES but you'll have poo poo mitigation most of the time.

life is mostly gotten on gear and hardly scaled, but at least you are either getting armour or evasion or energy shield as a defense on top, or a combination of whichever. so it is different in that way.

however energy shield does just have higher scaling on the passive tree than the other defense types as well, which is kind of weird.

where the big disconnect comes in is with sustain. its relatively easy to sustain energy shield, gaining a super low recharge delay and a high recharge rate. you can almost start its recharge just from a dodge roll
while life has terrible sustain unless you're a physical damage attack that can utilize leech. life regen is literally TERRIBLE and they nerfed it a massive amount in 0.3 for whatever reason.

so not only do you have a lower amount of it, but its harder to get back
