Rename POE 2 so it is not associated with real POE.
" I took his point to be that the qualifier "modern" had a specific advantage over Poe1 that meant something other than just different. Modern due to better graphics? Specific mechanics? What in it's newness gives it an advantage in appeal of playing? |

No matter you like it or not, well-being of og PoE and slog PoE, all depends of each others success.
There will be no rebranding, og will keep running smooth on potatoes, slog will keep continue appeal with rewamped renderer to wider audience of casual tourists. Life goes on. Some demons can only be cast out through prayer and fasting.

" Modern is a philosophy. PoE2 reduced friction when it comes to gearing by decoupling gear and gem sockets. New gem system in general is less strict in its approach Combat pacing is more dynamic with deliberate animations and timings, dodge roll and more readable enemy telegraphs and attack patterns as opposed to PoE1's more "immersive" "telegraphing" New crafting system in PoE2 (which also sees the removal of the crafting bench and classic metacrafting) removes an obscure crafting layer which aligns more strongly with modern design. In essence, the cognitive overload that is PoE1 crafting is gone in PoE2. Crafting is more intuitive and for most things you don't need external websites to play the game. Storytelling in PoE1 is functional, but the narrative presentation is limited and dated. Compare that to the more cinematic approach in PoE2, with high fidelity environments and high production value All those are "modern" approaches. Again, I am not saying "better", I am saying "different" The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

I don't think they should rename it because it's already struggling to keep players, and if it isn't called PoE then even less people will know about it.
This was a giant topic on the D4 forums back in closed beta after people realized it wasn't an actual Diablo game. We have also seen quite a lot of new PoE 2 players wandering over to PoE 1 out of curiosity or boredom, and falling in love with it. | |
" They have the issue that most PoE players don't like it because it is a downgrade in almost all departments. Skill gems, sockets, long boring campaign with trillions of dead ends and filled with fetched quests, undercooked league mechanics like Ritual, Atzmeri spirits, Deli, Expedition (which all are worse btw). And on top you have the both most hated league mechanics as ascension and TOTA will be third, which was a meme league mechanic in PoE already. You are basically left with good graphics and bad performance. Otherwise there is literally nothing what this game does better. I'm convinced they thought that PoE players swap over and they can give up on it. Turned out that most PoE players didn't need another simpleton D4 clone. Now they can't give up on their playerbase, who made the game known btw and that they can't attract enough new players to make it worthwhile. Hard business decisions ahead for them. " Once they decided to make it a seperate game instead of just adding it on top of PoE1 it was obvious what you said isn't remotely the truth. Stop making up scenarios in your head. Treat yourself to something nice lol. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

Guys... When another title is released, its never a carbon copy of the previous title, even if bears the same name. If its a carbon copy, people will surely scream "why its a whole 'nother game and not an expansion?"
Sure, some series change very little between each title, but many dont and have each game just being the same genre but feeling completely different from one another: The command and conquer tiberium series games are vastly different from one another, the resident evil series reinvented itself more than once on its history, the 6 main street fighters also play completely different from one another, ditto for all 4 galactic civilizations, if you look at neverwinter nights 1 and 2 you might not even notice they bear the same name, same for baldur gate 1 and 2 compared to 3, and theres even more extreme examples like valkyrie profile that pretty much differ as much as possible from one another while still being able to all be called valkyrie profiles, and theres the final fantasy's... why they even bear the same name? Its perfectly fine for poe2 to be called poe2, you guys just need to accept that you like one and just dont like the other and thats fine and chill |
