Why even make POE2?

They changed certain mechanics in POE1 to make it easier for players to transition aka adding gold.
Why was gold not in POE1 prior to Chris Wilson departing? because it goes against the entire design philosophy that Chris was going for...

Orbs? They were created to replace gold and be the main trading currency, endlessly farming the same dang dungeon over and over again to maybe get 1 unique, now what if its a garbage roll? gotta do all that farming again lol, classic D2, Chris had an idea to avoid that
Orbs, you farm for orbs, and this is how you craft gear, in POE1 with orbs of transmutation you can select the affix your putting on, you can target craft in certain scenarios, Divines were designed the way they were to avoid doing content you really don't wanna do except for that 1 item, now all maps can drop this item where you can reroll any gear of your choice.

Gold is an issue, not having enough, needing castaways, feeling the need to do something we otherwise wouldn't have to do, its not fun, plain and simple, its taxing, a waste of time.

+ lack of actual ingame events? yes we have seasons and new seasonal mechanics, why is the focus on this? when we don't have a proper core game/end game experience, what we have keeps getting changed and makes some people happy while making alot of other people angry, Oh I liked pre 0.31 towers wah wah wah, those are never coming back, adding bosses to all maps? its really not fun with the one shot mechanics, POE1 avoided this with the flasks, yes you can still die lacking the proper defenses, but uses flasks accordingly and the right ones? you'll have no issue, miscalculate use a flask at wrong time, your screwed

Don't even get me started on delirium, instead of removing delirium fog, lets remove instilling maps entirely and pass this off as a good thing!
You want a rare tablet and to actually craft on it?
Gotta do arbiter!!!! Oh can't find citadels? just buy that unique tablet or just buy the keys like come on its that easy right? oh ya I don't have any divines, see maybe 1 every 3-4 days of constant grinding, so s**t
All useful passives also requiring the hardest delirium to get...

Making us feel the need to do stuff, we otherwise don't want to do, its not a fun or worthwhile experience

The state of this game is baffling, going back on previous statements, all build showcases to this date, have been spellcasting builds, not melee builds... that should say enough, they don't know how to balance between the two, the game was announced in 2019 by Chris Wilson very passionately, he departed in 2023.... theres a reason, they ruined his vision, after he departed added gold, going against his core design philosophy, making the game more like "other arpg's"

This direction is sad, and I really hope some common middle ground is met between melee and spell casting, have never been done this early into a season

You wrote a lot, but I will answer it in one sentence.

PoE is a 12 year old game.

That's all the reason they need to make a new game. But maybe I'll add another sentence.

PoE 1 was GGG's ONLY game.

Even other incredibly long-lived games offered tangential games or sequels or other things through the years. Not GGG. They decided now was the time.

Doesn't matter what the game is, doesn't matter whether you like it or not, doesn't matter whether it is similar or different to PoE 1. All of that is opinion based on some misguided thought that the game HAS to be the same as PoE 1. The "why" has absolutely nothing to do with an individual's preference: it ONLY matters what the developer's preferences are, and then financial rationale.

And PoE 2 even now BEFORE release succeeds at accomplishing both developer preference and financial success.

Why do humans do anything?

Because it's worth doing.

Why even write this thread?
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.
Because they could. BOM. EZ.
Still sane exile?
PoE1 dont need PoE2 at all. Only game engine / visuals upgrade.
PoE2 = Patch of Slog
Looks like you like writing posts rather than playing the game.
We all have our favourite hobbies.
Does not matter if poe2 is different game. Main thing is it jas to not suck. Maybe in the same 12 years it will improve. Right now their is just too much wrong. Sprint was not the right answer, zooming isn't either. Combos are mot smooth except for a few. Maps and areas are terrible like a toddler drew the outline amd then a really skilled artist filled in the textures. Graphics and animation are good but not good enough to compensate for slowness while the mobs still.move at 100% ms.
Amenhotep Apothecaries Sisyphus
Because they had/have a vision?

I don't like PoE2. It's not my kind of game. But I'm not the center of the universe and PoE2 not being my kind of jab is more of a "me-problem" than a game problem. And make no mistake; they knew this going in. They knew that PoE2 wouldn't resonate with a lot of PoE1 players, which is inevitable when they decided to make the games as different as they are. That's probably one of the main reasons why they decided to "keep supporting both games", whatever "supporting" means.

Does it suck for me, personally, that we're probably looking at quantity/fillers over quality/substance for PoE1 going forward? Yes, yes it does. Still a "me-problem", though.

Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Well its good that.....they are separate games right?

What a weird comment, PoE 2 doesn't "belong" to PoE 1 in any way. In much the same way D2 doesn't belong to D1, or D3 doesn't belong to D2, or any sequel game that has ever existed.

Man threads and comments over and over in the PoE 1 forums mistakenly still believing that these TWO SEPARATE GAMES are one game, and trying to talk as if they are.....fundamentally miss the mark before they even get off the ground.

Seriously....has no one EVER played a game that releases a sequel? It's never the same game. Maybe 30 years ago the sequel game was closer in structure to its predecessor but its been at least a few decades since that was true of modern sequel games.

Ex: D2 was much more similar to D1 if you compare it to the changes D3 made to D2 over a decade later, or D4 to D3 a decade after that, but even D2 still had LOTS of changes from the original.

Daily reminder that Keepers of the Flame died in 3 days, and OP didn't even play it for more than one day.
