my thoughs on the current state of evasion character like mercenary
|
I have noticed that this topic is a bit controversial so i wanna clarify that i am not trying to start a fight. With that said, i have to say that evasion its not a problem, i think its pretty solid, thanks to the entropy system. the problem to me is that those character have no Hp at all, with end up making them die in one shot from almost every strong boss attacks. I siriusly don't want to cause trouble, it's just that With ES, you have more life and you can tank things. Like my sorcerer wich is a mana regen beast recharges 6k es in one second using waveforger, while my gemling mercenary barely reaches 1k and a half, two at best with the double effect of attributes. it's just maths. Like right now Evasion players that get to one hundred must be the best one, no question ask, because it's a no hit run too frequently. and i wouldn't mind diying if it wasnt for the exp pennalty. I kinda enjoyed his squezziness but for lvling porpuses whitout renauncing to juiced content i had had to go ES. and the funniest part it's that since i'm playing lighting, it actually does more damge now also, because the detour get you to super high Int, that combined with the lighting node form sorcerer that boost lighting damge with Int, and the increased damge afther crit from monk makes him a bit superior and also a survaibavility beast.
So basically what i feel it's that life should be booested or something by the time you reach endgame, just like with ES right now. otherwise they will feel like playing real hardcore mode. Like seriusly, cheers to the few evasion characters who manage to never die in hardcore leagues. Last edited by Stigardthecrow#5874 on Nov 9, 2025, 2:55:46 AM Last bumped on Nov 10, 2025, 7:03:27 PM

Let me edit your wall of text for the others:
Pure Evasion stacking is decent defensive layer, but it lacks substance in form of HP. - Mixed EV/ES is superior to Pure ES with same total investment. - There is no real way to stack mixed EV/Life, as Life is contesting Evasion on the items. And there is close to none ways of Life stacking besides items. And adding few cents from myself: - Mixed Armour/Evasion has similar issue of contesting the mod space on items, also Armour requires very high numbers for it to be worth. - Pure Armour is superior to EV, because it can be stacked really high and modded to apply vs Elemental Damage, which basically makes it both damage mitigation and HP substance. - Pure ES is just plain substance HP, but with proper investment you can get to the numbers way above any damage source in the game, so additional mitigation becomes obsolete. |

My pure evasion melee Pathfinder is in red maps. No armor, no energy shield. 76/75/75/26 resistances with 75% elemental damage reduction from Evasion. (The elemental DR shows up in the armor section of the character sheet. It's kind of funny to see Armor 0, Elemental DR 75%.) She's pretty tanky. I think the slow progress is due to SSF, not evasion. And this is my third character in the league.
Bonus: immune to slows. I actively go for the Temporal Chains and Chilled Ground waystones because they have no effect. I'll post the build after I kill an Uber. But it looks as though pure evasion Pathfinder is viable from early to late game. Hits per second is high, because Hollow Palm computes that off evasion gear, and that's all she's wearing. Edit: 2374 life at level 84. My current project is to get that over 3000. SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter. https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/ba84 Last edited by DistributedAutomaton#5739 on Nov 9, 2025, 10:33:14 AM

" Yeah, Pathfinder is the best one for pure Evasion hands down. I am not sure what content level is being considered by the OP, I am speaking about ultra-high-end-game. |

" I haven't tried this myself, but an interesting idea I saw in Poe2 Ninja Hardcore was to go Dex/Int on a Blood Mage or Infernalist, take Eldritch Battery, and then convert high % of damage to mana. Blood Mage gives you a big life pool, and Infernalist gives you a hellhound that soaks damage. Evasion means you get hit less, and, when you get hit, you lose mana, not (as much) life.

" How much evasion did you have to get to get that much elemental damage reduction? The ascendancy passive says 50% of evasion also counts as elemental damage reduction. So, you must have an extremely high amount? |

" 22,796 right now. Also, it's higher in practice because I specced into 200% Blind effect. To max defenses on gear, use gear that only gives one defense. An ES helmet and Evasion boots are better than boots and helmet that both give ES/EV. Since I only wear evasion gear, the number gets decently high. It can get much higher though. Remember, I'm in SSF and not at T15s yet. In trade, I bet you could get close to 90% DR.

Those boss difficulty Atlas nodes are the culprits for a lot of people's bad-times with endgame bossing I think, totally unrelated to evasion or es or armour. It's easy to even forget you have them allocated - until you roll a new character that gets into maps again and then you're instantly reminded.
Personally I think they need a look - bosses without them are way too easy and bosses with them are 1-2 wrong map mods away from being a 10 minute tight-rope walk of dodging consecutive one-shot attacks just to complete the zone and receive 3 more rare items than you would have otherwise. Juice doesn't feel like it's worth the squeeze. |

There's never really been anything to mesh Armor / Evasion together and thanks to the "Big Hit Vs Little Hit" system that GGG refuse to drop, going crazy amounts of one is almost always better.
It's like that in PoE1 too now. I almost always grab Iron Reflexes. Ironically before they reworked the Armor/Evasion system in PoE1. Armor + Evasion characters worked better. Though it was more like Flat DR stacking + Armor + Evasion + Dodge. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac
