Deflection - Yea, I don't see the point.

Deflection can be stacked to 100%, making you take a baseline -40% damage from all hits. Idk how high of an investment is needed, but with the new nodes and gear affixes that seems pretty nuts.

That's not true unfortunately. Check the formula for Deflection https://www.poe2wiki.net/wiki/Deflection

I gotta be honest, I'm not sure anymore what the point is u're trying to make in this Thread.

First u're saying it's lackluster and takes way too much investment.

I agree that it's not perfect, but people pointed out that it still has a usecase because attacks exist that cannot be evaded, but can be deflected.
Then I said that Deflection doesn't need that much investment. U can get alot of it from the tree if u want to or u can get alot from gear. Best is probably to mix both because some nodes on the tree are multiplicative, but it's up to u.

The only problem with deflection right now is that it's based on RNG and u cannot hit 100%. It's just like old Evasion/Dodge in PoE without additional layers of defense. U'd have 75% chance to dodge and 80% evasion and if both failed u'd die.

It is miles better than what we had before 0.3 for pure evasion characters. I played one in 0.1 and even tho it worked after u've gotten Acrobatics and ~10k evasion, it was still very squishy once u got hit.

PS: The Eva/Armour rework in PoE was very good, because it lowered the floor for affordable defenses in PoE. Armour was basically unusable before that and evasion only worked with additional gimmicks and huge investments in dodge, block and so on.
Now the scalability of both is better and u can still combine them with other forms of mitigation to get very very tanky. I don't think u need 1mil+ ehp, but even that most likely still exists.

Oh, I was mixing in my dislike for mismatching mechanics using itemization. ie Putting SS on gear. SS was obviously for Evasion base character and comparable to Max Res (until they added Exposure to Rares). They put it on gear though which gave access to most anyone. They try to segment certain features via the passive tree then they put it on gear and in high values. It's nonsense.

Both SS and Deflection were added because of shortcoming in the current conditions of the game. SS because they nuked dodge and Deflection because for a year now Armor/Evasion were fake stats.

The Armor/Evasion changes made them feel better while leveling and gearing but the changes were strictly worse at high end. Keep in mind it wasn't until the past few years that Dodge and Block were notably Investments with them reverting Block more recently.

That change also turned us all into Aura Bots which was esp lame.

Anyways. The main point there being the passives for Offense are notably better than Defense in both games with cross pollution on gearing that usually ends up causing problems.

just want to mention for people arent aware, deflection is based on enemy's accuracy.

Blind and effectiveness of blind on enemies, as well as things like "enemies have reduced accuracy against you based on distance" will make you deflect more. as well as anything else that could reduce an enemy's accuracy.

They added deflection because they removed acrobatics and merged with the base

The thing is that acrobatics has always been noob bait. Some people didn't know, but GGG did, so to compensate acrobatics being forcefully merged in the base, they gave the player deflection

OG Acrobatics and the PoE / Poe 2 versions tell s story I feel.

A story where Armor/Evasion didn't quite work but other method of defense were very reliable. Instead of having some type of median merge they decided no defense should be reliable.

Even now PoE1 Acrobatics only makes sense to me unless you're running Evasion + Shield with Petrified Blood and that one Jewel that gives a ton of HP but reserves damage as HP.

We went from fair a investment for Defense options to complete nonsense.

Check Conner's build that uses Evasion + ES + Deflection and you'll see the point.

What should I do if I have no idea who tf Conner is?
