I understand some people playing Lich with Eternal Life are using low life builds - but not all of us do so.
Currently we don't really have any sane way to heal back to full life:
1. Losing in ES fight to make life flask work is a bit risky (I already died twice trying to heal myself this way).
2. Speccing out, then back in to Eternal Life - that's 20k gold per heal. Not cool.
Some people mentioned that equipping Visage of Ayah (Eldritch Battery) works, but for some reason I still have some ES left with this helm equipped - so I cannot heal myself through that, either.
So, dear GGG, could you please consider giving us ANY saner way to heal ourselves back, as Lich with Eternal Life? Maybe special / alternative well we could put in Hideout, or dialogue option for Lurking Creature in the Well of Souls? Anything would be better than what we have now - it really sucks to have no reasonable way to restore life.

He is talking about when your shield dips and the health chunk does not recoup in time. Normally a developer who doesn't think stupid things like "glass bottles shouldn't break down because they are glass" would just let you top off at the well since it's a reset between maps. But no you have to spec out just to top off and go back to mapping.
It's beyond inane like most design principles that they are stalwart on (especially the extra time wasting ones).

Its not insane, it works like that because thats how the skill is worded that it works, and changing it would add the same problem to low life builds because you would have the same problem getting back to lowlife.
You voluntarily specced into something that says your life chant change while you have energy shield and then proceed to complain about not being able to change your life while you have energy shield. Now thats insane.

Keep your ES up and don't ake damage. Duh. No need for healing.
IF you can't do that, it just might be this ain't build for ya.

Convalescence replaces your life bottle in a pickle. High ES recharge and short recharge delay (under 1 second) is recommended. I switched to EL around 8k ES. Before it's a bit too risky to get one shot or you have to fix your low life status if you run out of ES which is a bit annoying.

People like Eternal Life specifically BEUAUSE your Life remains unchanged = synergy with Quick Response + Final Barrage + ES bypass.
The thing you're lamenting is the whole point of it.
If you're playing a Lich (=high ES build), why do you want to heal your Life anyway?
