A Smarter Hardcore Mode: Death with Consequences - Not just Moving out

^gotcha thanks for the clarity. I would probably label that as "Hard-mode" rather than "hardcore". Hardcore is a very specific, non-gradient term.

Basically ruthless, except for deaths.

I am a huge hater of hardcore because I have no interest in wasting so much of time when it can instantly be stolen away through permanent death. But I would be open to playing a more challenging death version of the game that DOESN'T include permanent death (or permanent loss of items). Something like de-leveling, or 1-portal, or things like that.

But a mode that promotes instant and near-permanent total build handicap will never be for me. I have too much respect for my time for that. It works in other genres, where the actual game is much shorter......not in an arpg imo.

Hardcore is technically the more healthy variant to play. Wasting time is the whole point of a video game. If you die on tutorial exarch and try it again next time, there is nothing wrong with it and it is not more time wasted than farming the same layout over and over again for some non existent digital "wealth" that will rot in standard(ok ok, 3 out of 10k players might actually care about their standard wealth after finishing a league, whatever^^)
On the contrary it is a challenge, hard to overcome the first time, but very rewarding. I remember the first time i finished malachai on hc merciless, what a blast. Can't compare that with wealth in sc^^

So, regarding the concept op suggest. If you put it in place of sc trade, yeah whatever fine i guess xd But obv do not replace og hardcore with it xd...

hehe I don't know where you came up with that one but that's quite rich. I would actually love to hear your justification for such a statement. Not the paragraph you wrote underneath it, which made no sense and had nothing to do with that statement...but an actual description of why you believe Hardcore is the more "healthy" way to play the game.

You don't have to play hardcore, you are free to pick another game mode, so chill ;) If my post doesn't make sense to u so be it.

I just want to know why hardcore is "technically the healthier mode" without some nonsense about wealth that even you admitted hardly anyone cares about anyway. A fact that's coincidentally ALSO important in Hardcore lol.....just not SSF HC which is even more niche. That's a loaded statement to just drop and not justify at all.

The only thing i can find is your post is that you deride "doing the same thing over and over to accumulate wealth". That game loop is no different when comparing HC to SC lol. It's probably even worse on HC because you are less likely to take risks doing "new" content until you are sure you are overleveled, overgeared, and ready for it.

If you had said "SSF is technically the healthier mode", then you might actually have a valid argument to make, given what you describe after that line.

Challenge and Adrenalin > Wealth and some Dopamine
Also, you play until it's game over = healthy. Then you move on to another game for a while. Pretty normal thing to do, but op acts like there is a problem with it, but nah there isn't ;P

Malachai Merciless was an example but i guess you weren't around when that was a thing ;P

Hardcore is equivalent to Roguelike. What you are proposing is equivalent to Roguelite.

While I got no issue with your idea, the only thing that bugs me about it is the EXP lost on death. Like, why are people so dead set on this being a thing. Just a horrible archaic mechanic. XD

I mean, XP loss on death is still much better than losing all your equipped items on death like in D2.
The way you describe it sounds like softcore with more severe penalties than xp loss. People are already mad about that penalty alone, despite it being 100% necessary.

Why would anyone play this mode instead of all the ones we have now?
That's a lot of words just to say "I don't want to play hardcore"
