Is the fight over XP Loss lost?

you know, you people got this all wrong.

the issue isn't xp loss.

the issue is the game is too punishing towards most non-LS builds. (if you're playing LS and are still dying all the time, its a you-issue)

second issue is xp gain is far too slow, while in poe1 its far too fast, a balance is necessary. maybe allow for 110 levels and make xp beyond 100 require a full month in daily hours of play to climb a single level. (meaning no one should reach lvl103 within the league ever)

people are frustrated because.... its not no pain no gain. its yes pain no gain.

but xp loss must remain. anyone else who thinks it should be removed should just go play the every other game that doesn't have it.

People have been making posts about this since ea started and even before that in poe1, and as far as I know they havent even adressed it once. Its very unlikely to be changed.
Its in the game to make leveling to 100 a challenge, if there is no penalty for death then you remove the challenge and the only requirement is time. This is also why this or similar mechanics exists in the majority of similar games.

To address a few of your points:

1. The challenge in terms of getting exp isnt really dependent on rng. Because your supposed to play maps according to how strong your character is and how high your skill level is. So if your having bad rng and missing chaos res (as an example) then you need to take that into account when you choose what map/map mods to run.

2. Your take on omens is wrong. You dont need to use one omen per map, the omen only gets used when you die, if you die once (or more) per map then the problem is that your trying to do content that you arent ready for yet and you need to either improve your characters strength or learn mechanics better.

It honestly is a very low impact issue if you learn the game.
1. You dont really notice the exp loss until you reach level 90, and from 90+ the character power you get per level is very tiny.

2. If your playing content appropriate to your character power / skill level then you shouldnt be dying that often, if that happends then you need to consider doing lower level maps until your ready.

3. Even if you choose to ignore that and not fix your build but instead keep doing maps where the mobs can randomly one shot you then you can fix the problem with an omen that costs 15 chaos.
Honestly, the more I play and higher level I get, it seriously feels like sadism. Someone enjoys people suffering. I am dead serious. Some of this stuff... Red glow out of nowhere.. BOOOM, dead. Glowy balls, DEAD.. Meteor from off screen.. DEAD. XP loss, XP loss, XP loss.

I just killed a boss, then the after effects killed me dead as I watch him drop all that nice loot. Zero retries, no loot, massive xp loss.

I feel like these dudes read this stuff and LOVE it.
To lose a fight you have to enter one.

The developpers don't even care about what you think. They have long decided on what they want in their game and why, they dont care about players feedback or ideas.

You didn't lose the fight about XP Loss, there never was a fight.

If it was or not a fight, numbers and profit of company will reveal it.

everything said here is spot-on accurate. anyone who thinks otherwise is objectively incorrect. poe is different from other arpg's because you actually need to learn and get better.. so maybe people who are not pleased with this difficulty should just play other games.

this is still likely the worst league of all time, but for many other reasons.

Xp loss should stay, its essential for the game mechanism otherwise the game will be boring.

All we ask for to make it more innovative and not just copy paste from Poe1!

It's a different game and we want different rules.

Troll post. So many of these from folk with no supporter packs and often closed profiles.

oh so people that dont spend a whole cars worth of money their opinions dont matter ? ok you with the few thousand that do spend that kind of money fund the game development alone

see what happens

small amount of money in huge quantity always beats the extremeli small but fat amount

thats the kind of profit they lose by making the endgame pointless . why would you play game where you cant progress in any way ?

Its a core mechanic from POE1.

No other game has that.

dozens of mmos have exp loss on death

Anywhere I see this topic I'm adding my suggestion to please both parties in the debate.

Move the XP loss start to 90.

It's a win win in the end.

But reaching level 90 is already easy even if you die occasionnally...if you die a lot, you have to take the hint.

Let players pick up exp. You bragged about being dark souls arpg, implement the dark souls paradigm. Do not slap something on and think it's cool.
