Can GGG survive?

There's a blaringly obvious contrast between the PoE 1 veterans and the PoE 2 tourists, and that is supporter packs.

When we browse the forums we see a handful of PoE 2 enthusiasts with absolutely no financial support badges, in contrast, those who are unhappy with the direction the game(s) have taken have hundreds if not thousands of dollars in supporter packs.

So my question is, if they continue this trend of abandoning PoE 1 and neglecting the playerbase that build their company, can they survive on the penniless tourists alone?

That's a highly speculative topic and honestly not leading anywhere right now.

GGG made enough money with the sale of EA Keys, that hey probably don't have to worry about money at least until 1.0. With 1.0 there will be another wave of people coming in and probably alot of them will buy some MTX, so it's really a long time until they have to worry about supporter pack sales again.

Who knows what happens with both games until then. If they are smart, they try to get PoE back on course and push packs to milk the old fans again.

how do people keep falling for their lies?

they sold "keys" in the POE 1 supporter packs. the ones that cost up to $600. they count those towards "poe 2 sales" ahhahah.

i'm sure many people played the game but they only admitted to codes being activated not sold. many codes for poe 2 were given out.

poe 2 bad

I was one of those fools who bought the Liberator of Wraeclast supporter packs. I bought it because I believed in GGG but now I can see just how misplaced that trust was.

I gave out 6 early access keys and none of those people play anymore.

It will be interesting to see if GGG can survive without the finances of PoE 1 supporters because their new base of broke tourists don't appear to show any financial support.
They know how to make banger leagues. They are just financially too stable to not push their dogshit vision to our mouths. Those clowns who buy every supporter pack not matter what is the reason of the games state.

Up until PoE 2 GGG had a success rate of over 90% which is phenomenal quite honestly. The failure of PoE 2 isn't the fault of those who believed in GGG based off their long history of providing quality products.

That said, lesson learned.
GGG's current leadership is simply unqualified for the position.

It is. You do good job, you get pay well, you do bad job, you don't. This fu culture of EA, pre purchases just make everyone lazy because they are granted that not matter what they do they will be fine. It's apply to literally everything in your life, from relationship to stupid games.

Got news for you, all those accounts that play poe2 paid for early access.

Poe1 is a game that requires far more money to be played than the rest in the ARPG genre, that its better to invest in stash tabs. Now perhaps I should had bought packs of the leagues I loved, not that I regret it though. Anyways if that would happen, it would have had so at the end of that league.

Do u really think they designed poe2 and their latest league 3months ago?

Got news for you, those games are 2-3 years ahead in league design. What u see today and in the next 3-6months in poe1 and poe2 is work done with Chris in charge.

Make €5,000 from one person or €5 each from 1,000 people, and either way - you have €5,000. Now in business that's not strictly true; from payment processing fees to customer service-related costs, it is always advantageous to cater to a smaller number of higher-value (financially speaking) customers than chasing after a larger number of people who individually spend less.

One of the advantages of pursuing a larger market is potentially converting a few new "tourists" into additional long-term big spenders. It's true to say that GGG will likely have burned some of their existing / former supporters and not all of those will return - but at the same time they'll be seeking to essentially start afresh with new people, all of whom have rather desolate looking stashes in need of fancy tabs. There's no inherent reason why people just discovering the game(s) now would spend less than those who discovered it / them years ago.

I don't think it's a question of whether a Tencent-backed GGG will survive, but whether they will thrive. Maybe it will ultimately prove profitable compared to what they would have gotten from the supporters they lost, and maybe it will prove ill-advised; but I don't think they'll be going out of business either way. That would only happen if Tencent chose to permit it.

It is true that the new wave of players who enjoy PoE 2 may invest in the company, just an interesting observation that those with negative opinions on PoE 2 have many supporter badges whilst those who voice approval for the new direction have little to none.

Though the numbers of peak daily active players indicates that there won't be sufficient investors should they continue to abandon PoE development in favour of PoE 2.
