The game as a whole is NOT bad, the combat and the general polish is INCREDIBLE.
It's core design principles suffocating the fun.
These guys keep trying to come up with actiony mechanics that require very predictable difficulty and THAT is the problem.
Maybe they just need to have areas where items simply don't work at all, and THEN they can indulge in these hyper challenging mechanics like the Trials where they need to be able to predict player power.
As it stands, these designers are in thier head too much, it feels like they believe in their vision far too much which isnt realized, and the INCREDIBLE game that is staring them right in the face is being decimated by vague notions of some game they WANT to make, but only exists in their head.
It's frustrating beyond measure, because the game only needs some fun mods and a reduction of negative tradeoffs and this game would be INCREDIBLE.
But its in the hands of designers who prefer to punish the player than reward them.
Exactly, this game is way too far in the direction of punishment and it has barely any reward at all. 0 dopamine to be found in this mess lol

At first I was impressed, I thought they had this switch they were holding back on with all these super fun item mods, and uniques and that they were going to flip it after a while to kinda pepper in more fun over time, or to tighten up the balance early on.
But what's setting in for us recently isn't that the game isn't finished, or that they have tons of fun stuff they're waiting to give to us...
This is what they want to do, they are intentionally making a game with the most bland and punishing systems imagineable.
It's so alarming. Because the vast majroity of players can see plain as day how incredible this would be if they would jUST ADD SOME FUN CRAP FFS.
And the discussion gets reverted to just, "OH YOU GUYS ARE NOOBS, YOU JUST WANT ZOOM ZOOM!"
NO! WE WANT A CHALLENGING ARPG! BUT THAT ARPG PART IS IMPORTANT!
The thing I was most looking forward to playing this game was seeing the inventive and new item mods the GGG designers came up with for POE2.
And what did they come up with? REGRESSION. NOTHING NEW. MORE PUNISHING MECHANICVS< MORE WAYS for enemies to feel cheap and cheesy.
You ever play a dungeon and dragons campaign where the DM thinks it's their job to kill all your characters rather than make a fun campaign? That's what this feels like. It's not fun, it's punishment.
At the heart of the disfunction here, is the notion that their perfect dseign decisions hinges on knowing 100% the player power, and they only way they can do that is to gatekeep all power, and make all increments that matter negating horribly unfun mechanics like resists and stun.
It makes me genuinly angry thinking about the amazing game that has been decimated by design that fundamentally minsunderstands what is fun in this genre, so some very small niche of designers can persue their niche tastes that only exist because they have debug tools and obsess about the top 1% of players.

Yeah its just sad. Game is dying because the "action" part of ARPG isn't there. Neither is the loot, character progression or power fantasy. What's left is some weird attempt at imitating elden ring or something. But with the most anti-fun game design I've ever seen. It's like they want the player to suffer and waste their time in maze-like 50km maps while getting no loot. I'd rather go do M+ Keystones in WoW with random people than do a single PoE 2 map hooooly.

I'm with you.
PoE 2 is worse than PoE 1 in nearly every way, especially the endgame and Atlas.
And until further actual content is deployed for PoE it is considered dead and perpetually delayed to me.
Therefore, I too am gone. I was a big supporter over the years but they'd rather cast us aside for a cash grab.

I mean it’s still early access and every patch is an improvement.
0.2 is a patch, isn't an improvement and it's unnecessary slowness and dullness is what they aim for. It backfired more than they thought so every patch they did after 0.2 should be considered as damage control. They will continue to impose their vision on us at the first opportunity because they don't see it as a problem. They think every last one of 0.2's problems has been caused by "unkown errors", not by themselfs and their choices.
If it's going backwards every single time it can then you can't hide behind early access because the final product is more or less predictable.
This game is doomed because of it's crooked leadership.

Exactly this. This is where the rage is coming from. They could make this an incredible game. They choose not to. They know better than the idiot player base what is best for them, and failure after failure they still indulge their design, because they enjoy chasing this white whale of some fun ultra hard ARPG that doesn't exist. They need to accept the fact that they are not good at making that game, they are GREAT at making the game people actually want, but they choose not to do it.
They're like a vocalist that loves death metal so they grunt and scream into the microphone, but they have the operatic voice of an angel, but they think opera music is for noobs so they just carry on screaming into the mic.

I'll take death metal vocalis at any time. Rather do something you love even if it's bad than opposite. Audience will be small but they will love you for who you truly are.

Totally with you. These guys should have a small scale side project without the weight of the company riding on it where they can fully indulge their passions in design. Make your dream game. I can't imagine this situation is enjoyable for them though, they are trying to force their niche design on a large player base and it's not working.

I'm really afraid that,( lets hope I'm wrong )even if we get a new league in Poe1, it won't be anywhere near the quality that can be expected. To avoid this, Poe2 should be left burning in its current state for a while.
