Build restrictiveness is TOO DAMN HIGH. Devs, PLEASE watch this video.

so it's more like they told you the hobbit trilogy was playing in 5 years, you got excited, then 5 months before the event, before tickets were on sale, they said 'actually it's the lord of the rings trilogy' and then tickets went on sale a little while later.

this is all moot though, because there is build diversity and while it may feel restrictive gosh did the 100 new supports alter that. I wonder if all the skills and supports still to come before launch, let alone whatever is developed after, will expand it further? any guesses?

as to earlier question about a battlemage warrior, idk why any type of thing wouldn't work considering how attributes function on the passive tree. But that's not all that restrictiveness relates to... if you're a battlemage do you NEED to use 1 particular skill that NEEDS to be built a certain way? that'd be bad. however... it's not THAT bad considering it's 0.2 not even 1.0 let alone where poe1 is which is like .... gosh I can't even count the expansions and updates it's had.
In fact, that's not how GGG's monetisation model works.

They advertised PoE2 as a PoE1 expansion for years because they wanted to incentivise the community to buy supporter packs, you know, to support them with their plans.

That some things change is acceptable to some degree. Like separating PoE2 from PoE1 for whatever reason. But turning PoE2 into Diablo 5 - is not.

Making it a separate game would be the "Hobbit", but still with LotR in it.
What we got now, that's why I used this comparison, is not even the Hobbit anymore. It's a body snatcher wearing LotR as a skin suit, but beneath it, it's Rings of Power. An insult.

oh, I'm sorry but that's just your opinion. the same people are making it and see it as a sequel, not to mention the many very plain as day similarities.

sorry you don't like it but that doesn't mean you get to declare it not a sequel.

as for you claiming they lied to you about a future product so you'd buy a present product, that's silliness. you buy what you buy.
Vari#0223, are you saying there are many different builds in the game? I had a similar argument in this thread, I'll just quote myself:

Do you know the site poe2.ninja? Among players who have reached level 95 - "Lightning Spear" is used by 71%.

this could not tell me less about what is possible in the game.

this is what was easy, obvious, and hyped due to a new character. it has nostalgia value in a brand new game because of d2. plus, day 1-3 everyone was convinced the game was impossibly hard so they said lemme just see what I know works. also, it's fun! path of evening on youtube keeps saying how it's his favorite build ever. good for him, but if he's having so much fun he's certainly not exploring other builds.

You are right. I am not the one who decides if "PoE2 is a sequel to PoE1" or not, GGG is.

What? GGG themselves said it's not a sequel anymore? Oopsie Daisy.

really? I'd love a link or direct quote so I can start to wonder and maybe try to ask why they're using the same name and so many similar systems. and it's in the same world. with the same terminology. sorry, hadn't seen this one.

think you got that backwards boss. Why would someone say "it's fine" if they steal a single build from someone?

if the vast majority aren't creative, maybe you and OP just haven't discovered something fun yet? I definitely see variety on youtube, not from big names but that's no shock to me. it's from poe focused players not arpg content creators who need to rip thru content so they can play some other game when some other patch drops.

so if it's restrictive this will obviously change with time as it already has, but idk if that's been 'proven' and it's kind of ironic to ask me to go watch some youtuber to "prove" it after what you just said insulting most players ability to think for themselves.

I mean, if you can simply declare yourself smart enough to be able to tell if a game has build diversity, then so can I. and I say it does. oh no, we're at an impasse.

don't have quite as much info for this league, however during standard approximately 80% of the player base was playing the same 3 or 4 builds.

the last time i checked for this league, the top hard core players in this league are playing 2 to 3 builds.

the hundred plus support gems in are an illusion, many of them have hard coded restrictions that won't allow them to be used outside of the intended use.

here is an example how my planned build was impacted, and while it is probably similar to a build guide, i don't follow them. i wanted to build around unearth, and use a "on minion death" meta gem to link a chaos explosion.

then the devs changed the minions from unearth to not not work with the meta gem. but the skill gem still shows the tagline of minion..... ok?

another combo i wanted for the build was to use blasphemy and hex blast. then the devs made changes to hexblast that now prevents that interaction.

Guys, did you even watch the video from the first post? I apologize, of course, but stop going off-topic!

And you know the answer like - "I feel like there are some super builds out there, the community just hasn't figured them out"...

OMFG! Let's give some specific examples and as a fan of build building, I'll definitely study your PoB link. The video is full of SPECIFIC arguments regarding the topic of the thread and I can give SPECIFIC examples, if anyone is interested of course...
I'd rather everything work but some things not working, again especially in early access and with how sensitive this community is about anything getting weaker later, I'm not bothered by 2/100 not working in a way you thought they might.

by all means, like what you like. in fact, play what you like! I highly support everyone playing exactly what they prefer to be playing. I just mostly want to remind people that they're expresing opinion and not fact.

I don't care what most people are playing. that's not how to know exactly what works. this game is very young, lots of people are put off on the campaign whether I think their statements are exactly rational or not so they're not leveling multiple classes to try things. things have to be found in the first place and lots of people just want to play what works. each league we'll have more possibilities AND more knowledge to start from.

I'm not talking about my theories I'm talking about bujilds I see at end end game on youtube. I got them from threads like this and recommendations, they aren't hard to find or a fantasy, but there's no number of links I can give that will change people's opinion if they're upset about a support not working or the % of people on a certain build.

myself I'm playing a ritualist companion purely because I thought it made sense from a flavor perspective. it lacks synergy I could get elsewhere, I've been trying to find ways to justify companions. it's not amazing, I'm at t15 hoping I can take it further. but I'm having fun. last season I wanted to do a poison arrow and that also worked.

that's all I can say, I think of and do whatever comes to mind and it works, that's personally my concern. can I have fun? yes. plenty. cool.
