Well... that is a them problem. I think a professionals office would be the place to vent that issue, because there isn't a video game out there that becomes part of my identity. Video games are my hobby, but my identity... nah mate.
Does explain some things though with that context. A bunch of people that would benefit from therapy, finding catharsis in confirmation bias and solidarity in hating something that has become part of their identity, which makes them feel as if they are hating part of themselves, and begging to have it given back to them.
That's a yikes from me.
Not to the extent that it would be an obsession, but I don't see why it would be weird that someone's hobby that they're very passionate about would become a part of their identity.
Regardless of what your day job is, you could absolutely consider it a part of your identity that you play the piano every day for a few hours, or go to the gym regularly, or that you go hiking and invest significant amounts of time and effort into it.
Nobody would say that that's "weird" or that you "need therapy" when it comes to those things. So why would a videogame be any different?
I would say it's "weird" to have any of that as your identity - at least weird in the "unhealthy" sense.
Stupid people never lose an argument.

Catering to forum QQ is one of the bigest mistakes a company can make,
for example while developing the game, your own judgment produced a game that attracted 500k players,
and that's pretty dang good.
Atracted 500k players on the back of POE1
The rep POE1 has build over the years.
THIS GAME destroyed that reputation.
Less then half of these 500k came back for this patch. 40% of these people already left week one. The rest are reguler slow player who still havent hit the ''endgame'' to realise its the same and nothing changed. They will leave aswel when they do hit the end game eventualy. There was players doing campaign month 3 after the EA launch.
For the next patch EVEN LESS people will show up i can guarantee you that.
Becouse you know, trick me once, shame on you, trick me twice, shame on me, trick me 3 times.....you.....you cant trick me no more !
You can only do so much riding on the reputation of your predecessor.

I won't tell you to like the game in its current state, but this analysis is nearsighted. 0.2 was always going to have fewer players than 0.1 even if it had been the second coming of Innocence. The tourists have left, the new and shiny factor is gone. Now only the diehards remain.
Impatience is insatiable.

Well, that's OK. I'm not really looking for your approval here. I'm just clarifying that while you may find it "weird", there are also many people, who would find it perfectly normal. That's all.

Yeah I gotcha.
That why you have the backwards hat "gym bro"
The pimply faced "math nerd"
The douchey high school jock
And the various other stereotypes.
They are identities assimilated because humanity craves belonging. People will mirror the identities they desire, usually out of envy, loneliness, boredom, or whatever.
I digress however.
I see what you mean for sure though, but, this forum may not be the proper place for those types, because for them it's always personal.

It's interesting that the number of complaints about the game being made too easy, as well as the number of complaints about it being made too hard are both very high. It seems that the only thing the majority of the forum can agree on is that they don't like it.
But I think that people sharing what they don't like and that affecting the game's direction in some way is a good thing. These "don't listen to them, listen to me" posts are a little ridiculous.
Play OP meta build = game too easy
Play homebrew build that sucks = game too hard
Same dichotomy in every game, really.

Yeah but it's still weird that 0.2 couldn't attract more people than Settlers. I mean it's still new and shiny, a lot of old time PoE1 players who stopped playing at some point should've returned along with some new audience.

If I'm honest, I wouldn't mind a downsizing of the community.
I'm really tired of F bomb laden, ignorant, typo ridden, just plain stupid posts that just threaten GGG with the dreaded "uninstall" and telling them how little fun they have. I mean, 99% of the "critique" on this forum isn't critique at all, just whining and typical, childish nonsense that just stems from entitlement and selfishness.
I like reading the intelligent, thought out posts by players that actually seem like they have a decent head on their shoulders, and have a good amount of gaming experience.
I really hope that Kai Cenet or whatever never plays this game, he single handedly destroyed the From Software community.
That said, the majority of this forum is depressing.
