Why Does PoE2 Keep XP Loss on Death?
I see no one (like literally NO ONE) complaining that XP loss on death is deactivated during the campaign. So really, I expect nobody is going to miss it for long when it's finally gone for good. It's an outdated mechanic that serves nothing but to frustrate us players.

Being frustrated is part of the gaming experience...
No... the mass want : All easy, copy builds, clear screen one button, no xp loss, no challenge, no nothing. Why play POE2 then? Play a phone game. But CAREFUL in a phone game you will find challenges and probably no meta builds made by pros to copy. What then? Delete the phone game? uninstall poe2 and be done with it. Geez. what a generation of whiners. Last edited by hypochrist#0488 on Jul 12, 2025, 4:36:02 PM

Come on guys, how can you misunderstand SO much what's being asked here? It's like you haven't read a single word of our messages…
We WANT the hard game, the meaningful gameplay, the complex build system, the overall challenge, that's why we play POE and not another ARPG in the first place. We just don't want to lose earned progress. There, it's just that, it's really THAT simple. | |
.....to keep addicted people to play more ...
Normal people just give up game this no sense feature. |

GGG just stop that stupid mechanic....
yes we got omens but what if they dont trigger ? Does anyone of you ever played your own game ? I srsly doubt it. Thos mechanics are 1980 and maybe you come into 2025 as well. Omens which do not trigger what sense do they have than ? Bring in the option : With exp loss and without and i bet 99.9 % will play without |

" My time is valuable. I'm a home owner, how about you? There are always things I could be doing. I take breaks from those things to play games. I also don't copy youtuber or someone else's builds. I like to experiment. I don't copy what someone else has done and then wipe screens with my RMT gear. With that being said, there are way, way, WAY too many BS deaths in this game. *Go up a winding S shaped path on Blooming field to kill some mobs, behind the mobs are 2 laser jerks. Can't get away because the laser length is from Montana to Ohio, cant reach them in time because of the body blocking mobs in front of them. Die. *Click on an essence cage (BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE CLOSE), immediately swarmed and surrounded and body blocked. Die in under 1 full second. *No mobs on screen. Die an instant one-shot mystery death. Full ES, full health. Assuming its a projectile from a mob off screen. *Frozen and die because the charm didn't activate. *Rocking in a map and just doing a great clear and having fun. Die another mystery death. No idea of what happened. Again, full health, full ES. Now imagine the omen in your bag that prevents a 75% XP loss is still active in your bag. This isn't Elden Ring where you can pick yourself back up and think of a different approach, learn, and try again. Your time is gone. Progress already wasted. Yeah, consort redahn is kind of BS and hard (especially using whips) but I don't get thrown back to melania after dying to him. I really like this game. I mean I REALLY like it. But for as much as I like, there is an equal amount of BS that absolutely needs addressed. This is one of them. I'm ok with the XP loss but the stuff I mentioned above needs fixed first. XP loss during EA needs absolutely disabled. Last edited by Skyvortex#7923 on Jul 20, 2025, 10:23:40 AM

Loss of experience on death was originally an arcade mechanic to extend gameplay. To keep you putting quarters in.
There isn't any reason for it to be in games you play at home and do not put money in. No one is going to buy more MTX because they die and lose experience. No one is going to buy more MTX when they feel they lose progression, quite the opposite. It's an old mechanic (just like using an outside trade site) that shouldn't be in modern games. Most people forget that POE2 is supposed to EXPAND the player base, not fit in the same niche as POE1. If that is the true goal, this mechanic should not exist. Accuracy isn’t just math—it’s the art of the hunt.

I hate losing XP when I die (and I tend to die a lot). With that said, I don't want them to remove the penalty. XP loss is a skill check. With no permanent penalty, anyone could endlessly grind to max level no matter how poorly-designed their build or how poorly they play. Path of Exile revolves around leagues, and leagues are competitions.
I wouldn't have an objection with them removing the penalty in Standard League. With all that said, I would like to have some mechanic that allows us to recover some of the lost XP from the previous death, maybe 50%. In D2, we had to run around with no gear and loot our own corpse to recover some of the lost XP. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

You know that getting to level 100 isn't beating the game, right? Anyone can hit 100 with a brain-dead build given enough time. Is that the type of gameplay they want to encourage instead of people experimenting and having fun?
There are also multiple punishments for dying already, I don't see the need to kick us in the nuts from three different angles if we die to difficult content. XP should be something in the background that just happens over time so that even if you're getting your ass handed to you you still feel like you're making *some* sort of progress to make your character stronger. That's literally what the definition of experience is. In fact they say you learn more from failure. I personally find the whole system of making you feel like you had your time wasted the worst part of these games. How would you feel if every time you died to a boss in Elden Ring you had to clear trash for three hours to get another attempt? That's what dying on some of these uber pinnacle bosses is like. If you paid the price for admission you should get as many attempts as you want. You are still paying the price of time if you keep dying to them. GGG is basically saying that our time is worthless the way it currently works. Also don't get me started on how co-op is basically already cheating and they have no problem putting that in the game. |
