Johnathan is too married to the idea in his head.

Good.
Honestly I have huge respect for Jonathan and Mark for agreeing to do the interview.. and huge respect for Ziz for asking real questions -- and actually pushing back.

That being said --

I definitely disagree with more of Jonathan's takes than I agree with.
I don't want to just rag on him, but I think Mark has a much better handle on receiving feedback.

I could write a book on how I think Jonathan couldn't be more wrong on monster movement speed... his take on loot scarcity.. and a few other things like.. needing to disenchant rares to get regals.

He seems to just have some really strange hills he's willing to die on.

Thankfully Mark is really level headed and I really appreciated his logical responses. I really enjoyed listening to him speak.

I'm just really happy they had this interview though. I think that it took huge balls to do this interview, and I love that it got a bit passionate. I really think this should be the standard for how dev interviews go.

Also I appreciate that Jonathan has a vision, and he's passionate about it, even if I don't agree with some of his takes. I think Mark is a good balance to Jonathan's strict views on things.

It was a tough interview and Jonathan was clearly tilted at points which is something he needs to consider going forward. It's disasters like this that lead to companies going down the blizzard route of highly scripted podcasts.

Content aside GGG can't afford this kind of screw up again. If necessary just send mark.

This is a rather extreme, if not intense take.

They are not super stars or gov. officials - and I dont know about you, but I dont think me, or anyone else in the forums probably have enough business AND game development experience to express this kind of foresight, to call it a disaster or screw up. observation is hardly everything.

My personal take on your opinion though is - if you are so worried, why not propagate a environment filled with positivity and acceptance, so that honest Devs like these can continue to be honest, rather than react in fear of loss, like you have. Do you not want them to show up? won't you act for what you want, instead of simply expressing anxiety in a way that makes things look or actually become worse?

Things change, and just like unpleasant or political bs has come and is now leaving the gaming environment (hopefully it fully goes for good or atleast mostly) so too can toxicity, fear and negativity.

I just takes a bit of effort, preferably from everyone...

Like the title says. After watching the interview with ziz, most of Johnathan's answers seemed to be "I'm personally not having that issues, so the playerbase must be doing something wrong"

Sure, in some cases the playerbase might be doing things incorrectly relative to the vision of how said thing should be handled, but Johnathan wasn't really able to grasp any of ziz's points or would go full defense mode about whatever mechanic or interaction was under the spotlight of the question.

I think Johnathan is too married to the idea of what he wants poe2 to be in his head, and it's not translating in the real world. Johnathan worries me for the future of this game.

Mark is goated though, big time!

he is one of the guys that did not like the ARPG market but instead of complaining he moved his ass with some friends and BUILD a new game and founded a company. he has the RIGHT to have a vision and want to keep to it.

If your vision differs you can do as him and make your own game!

If your going to complain, at least do it comprehensively. Do it with empathy, because god knows, many of you keep missing that train.

Here's hoping some of you develop empathy, wisdom and understanding - and the rest of us dont pay for those who dont.

Have a lovely day.

Holy sh*t my guy. Could you sound any more condescending and haughty? Or be more hypocritical?

God forbid developers listen to Customers a bit. You know, the people making the developers paychecks a possibility. When a lot of the feedback is "This feels like a slow, grueling slog, where I'm constantly feeling on edge and stressed," you DON'T want a lead developer to go, "Oh, well I'm not having that experience, so the majority of the player base must be doing something wrong."

If they want to go in an entirely different direction than PoE1 went, then don't call the game PoE2. Don't bring back the iconic crafting currency economy. Don't bring back Kitava and the Vaal. Don't bring back Ascendancies and Trials. Don't bring back the Atlas, Mapping, and Pinnacle Bosses. Make it TRULY different. But this IS Path of Exile. A franchise that has been around since 2013. Players are going to have expectations from that. You can't take 10+ years of precedence, completely change it, and expect people to be somehow okay with that.
It's their game, all we can do is giving feedback, the fact that you paid an entry fee doesn't mean you can dictate anything. Jonathan should not bend and should stick to his vision whatever you like it or not because a lot of people enjoy PoE2, it should not deviate.

Had the same feelings. The game feels like work and I am not even sure there will be a point at this state where it doesn't. I guess that is okay, have just to admit it is not a game I like to play. I think there is too much passion about balancing and redesigning without any significant improvement in actual content. From my perspective this is a mistake no matter what vision is dominant. I am fine if they keep on their work your ass off for your armour scrap thing as long as there is a different vision for PoE1 and no more delays in that case.

this jonathan vs mark shit is wild and completely an invented phenomenon. POE and POE2 are works of the entire company and don't represent the sole vision of one person who people just decided was at fault 2 days ago.
ask me about my fursona
