Changes to evasion need to be addressed

Obviously the patch has plenty of issues that need to be looked into. Evasion and specifically acrobatics is a big one for many players especially for HC SSF.

In it's current state acrobatics is basically bricked. For those who haven't played with evasion as their only damage mitigation before i will elaborate.

In the prior state of the game it was reasonable to go finish the campaign with 60% evasion with acrobatics in a SSF playthrough and more than reasonable to be above 80% in trade league. Keep in mind this wasn't just from gear this took a reasonable investment of passive points and gear optimized for evasion.

In the current state of the game in SSF it is incredibly difficult to eclipse even 40% evasion with acrobatics and this is due to a few factors that i think GGG overlooked and because of that it has been disproportionately nerfed.

Acrobatics itself was nerfed from a 70% reduction of evasion to a 75% reduction additionally wind dancer was nerfed from a 76% increase in evasion down to 30%. These direct nerfs nuked an evasion play style by themselves but the lack of currency in campaign is an indirect nerf that makes it much more difficult to get any amount of evasion and almost impossible to get enough to sustain acrobatics.

I honestly think the best solution would be a rollback on both nerfs but I have an alternative. If this version of evasion is the vision I would add a mechanic called "partial evasion" to the acrobatics keystone which would have double your current evasion chance and only reduce the incoming damage by 35%. For example, you take acrobatics and now have a 40% chance to evade all damage, in the event you dont evade, you would also have a 80% chance to avoid 35% of the damage.

I would like this solution because it would significantly reduce the oneshot potential and still require a large investment to make it reliable.

I understand that pure evasion as a play style Is risky but acrobatics is supposed to make it viable and in the current state it just isn't.

For someone context I have only played HC so I invest heavily in defenses. I mained ranger with pure evasion all last league in HC and HC SSF. I love the play style and I'm planning on maining deadeye spear or Amazon spear this league.

Keep in mind I'm not angry or raging I'm just giving feedback. I am aware GGG is working hard on adjusting the patch and this isn't their top priority.

Besides concrete numbers and SC/HC I really like your suggestion and fully agree on your analysis. The result you suggest would still be weaker imo than Acrobatics + Wind Dancer + Grim Feast last league and the required extra nodes for Evasion to reach higher numbers after Acrobaticsnerf would make the setup in a way as costly as the combination before (assuming you would need the monk area and the Evasion/ES nodes to go above 80÷).

I agree 100% they overnerfed evasion imo, AFAIK only ES was OP.

Still feels like the only viable option is ES right now. Fingers crossed they address it. Grim feast getting taken out really only nerfs the sustain of ES on maps but it's still the best way not to get nuked.

Yeah, I'm able to hit 60% evasion with acro only with gimmick nodes that give me 100% evasion while not being hit and thats using wind dancer and tailwind to help boost it

They should have some kind of notable that is a "Glancing blow" type of passive where you take reduced damage. I don't understand why we need to have an all or nothing with evasion.

Don't take acrobatics unless you have the gear to solve it. Be wary of slams and dodge them. I fixed your problem, you are welcome.

Yeah that is the somewhat oversimplified solution but it becomes borderline unrealistic on high density maps especially now that clear speed is halfed but you are entitled to your opinion. I personally believe that acrobatics should be useful prior to getting your end-endgame gear but to each their own.

The problem with that, is Acrobatics quite literally reads "-75% evasion, evasion is now immunity to everything except debuffs"

Which means if you add enough HP or ES with that, unless you are playing with your monitor off, you don't need anything else but that and damage in softcore, if you can get enough evasion, you can completely ignore every mechanic in the game save a few (that are otherwise trivial regardless). That to me, screams late game dream. The fact it has a meaningful downside/ high investment means it doesn't have to be completely removed from the game.

Evasion was pretty busted 0.1, and it is still pretty good in 0.2.

I see your point man for sure! I think that a solution to this could be a higher dex requirement to the evasion gear in the late late game so people can't have maxed evasion and super high ES. My opinion is admittedly very skewed because I have never played soft core so defenses for me have always been huge. I felt that it was balanced before because I was on average taking 15+ nodes to sustain high evasion.

At the end of the day I still think the nerf was more aggressive than it should have been and could be rolled back even if slightly.
