"Tame Beast" seems like April's Fool-prank -> QoL is infernal

There's a Big Passive node that says you can have 2 companions of different kinds with -30 to defences...well that doesn't work. Still says I've reached my limit at 1.

I've had this issue show up as well, and it returns every time I disable one of my companions. However, it seems to only show up when playing with a controller. Switching to WASD input briefly (if you're on pc anyway) should allow you to enable them both. It's a bit annoying, but that's worked for me.

I found some other QoL issues related to the Tame Beast (or the created skill gem).

- You can increase the level of the tamed beast, but it will ONLY be present on the skill list if you have it equipped AND it is lower level -> otherwise it will not be listed in skills at all when you are cutting a new skill gem

- You can only equip one companion at the same time, even though nothing in the skill lists that you could have only one (if you have enough spirit) to have multiple

- The spirit reservation (%) should indicate current spirit cost as value as well

- Rare mod "details" should be improved; eg. there isn't any kind of damage or ailment chance listed anywhere of numerous skills the companions can have

1. Yes, that is how skill gems work. Not a beast-specific issue, or really an issue in general if you ask me.

2. The Companion tag informs you that you can only have one companion by default. Reading the tags explains the tags.

3. At least when playing with a controller the reservation menu does show how much they cost.

4. I'll grant you, it'd be nice to get a proper readout of what some of the rare mods actually do. Is there a difference between the invuln aura and the empowered invuln aura? I don't know, because the description was unclear.

I still don't quite get your main point though. Yes, collecting every single potential version of a rare is functionally impossible as there are too many variants. Sure. And yes, it's kind of random as to what you'll actually encounter. Almost like that's just like rare items. Weird. Please tell me you're not insisting on collecting every different variant of rare spears as well.

My advice: have a lower level tame beast gem with you so you can, if need be, capture a new beastie you come across that has some cool modifiers. But if you see it and it doesn't spark joy? Just kill em. And if you grabbed one and aren't impressed at the end of day? Just disenchant the tamed beast and get your original gem back.
The whole issue is that your Tame Beast skill gem is destroyed.

Early game you are hindered by the amount of skill gems. As you can't even see what the mods actually do on the beasts, you are completely on dark what you spend your skill gems on.

Simple fix would simply be a revert option for a Tamed Beast -> you could get the Tame Beast (without the beast) back.

And here I thought the issue was, you can tame a beast that practically one shots you, and then watch as it dies 1 on 1 against any white mob in the game, doing maybe 5-10% of that mobs health in damage at best.

As I said, you can disenchant your companion gem and get the original Tame Beast gem back. It's a recent change, but it's pretty much exactly what you're suggesting.

I didn't really experience being starved for regular skill gems myself, but I did basically find one neat beast buddy and kept him forever.
