Name change of items is huge step backwards
It is very difficult for me to explain, how stupid the design of item naming in POE 1 is, and how much better WAS the naming convention in POE 2.
I get the basic idea, how you want the wording to hint for the tier of the item. And I admit that in some cases say "copper/bronze" it can be quite clear to put a value on them based on some knowledge in metallurgy, in others cases the use is "reinforced/steel" and is not that simple to determine. (If anything one would expect the logical "iron/steel" naming.) And it doesn't help that we have like 20 bases per attribute to remember. It is much easier to know the name of a single base, and then determine the tier of the item by "advanced/expert" prefix. And I speak on behalf of the majority of the community. I cannot imagine that there will be people, that would want this kind of complexity, side from few nerds in their parents basements, that spend the last 10 years learning the names of every single item in this game and all of the defense value ranges on them. You do not speak for any majority. Apologies if this has caused a rift in your world view.
Fairly sure you didn't know the base values of any of the Advanced/Expert bases either. This is early access and things will change with a view to a bigger picture. |

" This is what you do not get at all. The exact base value is not the key here. Exact price checking is done by third party tools like Awakened for POE 1. When you are doing T16 maps and you see ADVANCED/EXPERT Bombard Crossbow, you know what kind of builds this crossbow is for, and which one has higher stats. After the upgrade you will see: "Siege Crossbow", "Cannonade Crossbow". First - this doesn't have the Bombard in its name. Second - it is questionable that people will be able to rate which one is better base of those two. And I think this will be true for majority of the players. Even the most basic logic dictates this. Edit: I keep the example simple, so you can understand it. But this is not about crossbows at all. I can modify it to other kind of gear. Last edited by Skellymancer#5263 on Apr 2, 2025, 7:26:01 AM

it's more a question of habits imo, anyway your filter can solve any issue you have with loots.

The great thing about a video game is that you will learn what the names mean. Homogenized item names are a no go from me

" Absolutely true, and actually filter is what is doing it for me in POE 1. I am just pissed off, because I was able to immediately identify the tier and the purpose of bases in POE 2. Until now... |

" I actually did not learn the names of the bases in POE 1. For price checking I use combination of third party services (that are actually dependent on quite a lot other third party services) and loot filters (that are based on information gathered by such third party services). And every time I search item that I do not own, I use site like craft of exile, to check the base, mods pools, roll chances, etc. Again - simple example, for item category, you have 3 pure attributes, and 6 hybrid, and each one has like 10 bases (sometimes it is like 20). So to qualify an item in that category you not only need to know like 90 (or more) names, but also how they are ordered and what specific mod they provide. Do you actually learn those, or you pick the item, then control-D on it, and price check the "base"? Until now you could just pick up some EXPERT X, slam some essences, and then get some divines for them. Now I have to run item filter... just like in POE1. |

I don't mind this change at all. Commiting to memory few names is no problem, it comes naturally by playing the game. And also loot filters exist. I would even welcome more creative names that don't always suggest what kind of item it is. Would be more fun that way :)

" Few? Only the deprecated EXPERT versions are 120. And I have to add, and stress on it: FOR NOW. I am aware that loot filters exist. I already explained that I use one. My frustration is that I was able to quickly evaluate and generate profit based on the item name, without having to use one. And now I have the choice to use filter, or give up from that portion of income. And when you think of it - this is not really a choice, is it? |
