Huntress is the evidence that you just don't know how to make a good melee archetype
Please hire proper melee devs, yall don't have the skills to make good melee

" It's funny because all they have to do is make skills that basically are the melee autoattack with splash attached. The fact that warrior autoattack with support gems was the most "melee" skill in the current game is really ironic. I think the fundamental reality is that they just don't want melee to be good, though. All their "solutions" make it worse than ranged, or drive you into playing ranged skills as melee. So monk is made viable by shooting out projectiles and heralds. And they have a hard-on for no speed/movement skills, which are essential to melee feeling good. Can't disagree with that one. When I saw her ranged abilities, I was like yep another ranged character. Most people will be playing ranged because melee is always dangerous. Anyhow just like how Monk started ranged then people found Ice Strike and Stat build, it will be the same here. She will start ranged and some people will find out melee build that blasts.
However Ritualist seems to be very end game ascendacy that require a lot of investment. While Amazon seems to be good all rounder. I hope ritualist don't end up like Acolyte, my bet is that Amazon will be more popular. For now I was planning to create huntress but I got a lot of monk vibes from her and monk was my main in 0.1.0. I think I will start lich necro since spectre is now online. It will be safer approach, I'll farm some currency and wait out for huntress builds then build my huntress depends on the builds. My mind is on ritualist so, choosing this ascendacy right out of the bat might be risky, I'll go safer. | |
That's the way the game is designed, you either explode the mobs or they explode you. Ranged can eliminate things at a safe distance and even off screen before the mobs can react, melee has to get up in your face to deliver their explosions and gets the double whammy of incoming enemy damage plus their on death mechanics. Or my personal favourite, leaping over a ground effect on titan and dying midair to something I am jumping over.

" Because just like GGG, you refuse to look at the global picture How do you make melee compelling when your ranged ability cover the entire screen? you also make melee cover the entire screen? we have to PoE 1 now Look at everyone, already theory crafting their ranged spear builds... how lame is that And i never said the class didn't look "epic and magnificent", it sure do look good and smooth, but that's not the point The point is by focusing on making ranged/explosions satisfying and powerful, you HURT the melee experience Have you seen the melee skill? poking 1 mob.. vs throwing your lightning spear that bounces off the entire screen, lol brother, how cringe is that Now, ask yourself: - how does a flail & shield fit in that scenario? you'll rotate your little weiner and block mobs 1 by one? lol - how does a dagger archetype fit in the scenario? you'll stab enemies 1 by 1? Or we back to PoE 1 with making everything conflate into screen wide chain explosions? Because that's where it seems to be headed to, don't you think? What's the point of weapon types if everything plays the same, Huntress? Monk? Ranger? all the same And then comes balance of monsters.. but yall not ready to discuss it Last edited by ryuukk33#4998 on Mar 28, 2025, 1:39:33 PM

" until around 85-90 and farming t15-16s you arent going to see the main issues. Also warrior is one of those classes if you never watch another person play you may be content with what you can do. Then you realize how easy other classes have it, then realize that the entire economy has you in a chokehold with respect to clear speed. You realize that warrior is something that you play because you like it, not because its competitive. If it was 2001 and twitch/youtube didn't exist and this was a game like gauntlet legends on n64 you may be ok with warrior. but its not 2001. Comparison is the thief of joy is the most nonsense cope thing that exists. That will only hold weight in a single player game. A game with 3-4 month league cycles and trade it just doesn't work if your goal is to complete all content in a reasonable time. It seems they want the content balanced in a way where casual players will never get all of their boss points within a 4 month league. There is just 1 problem with that. We have been playing poe1 for a long time where casual players can easily get 4 voidstones in hcssf within a month then they can enjoy the endgame for a while. The way it stands now if you're a casual there is a good chance you can never get enough atlas points to grind out an ingenuity from ritual or a single simulacrum. We don't have patch notes atm so this could have a complete shake up though. We have no idea whats about to happen next week. It doesn't feel at this time, that they are creating any hype for melee though. Which is what the op is upset about. As a melee player myself i have 0 excitement for this. I was hyped for druid or swords. Huntress might be ok I don't really know yet. Ill likely play because i just ripped my favorite character in phrecia. Doesn't mean I'll be addicted like every poe1 league start though. Fwiw I don't think the op is shitting on huntress. Just saying that when you add classes that have ranged explosions what is the incentive to play melee. |

" Just by watching the recent youtube video we already know zoom zoom is the direction. Warrior is still slow, crossbow is still dogshit. This game is finished. |
