9 skill gem slots are way too few
I would agree at least 1 or 2 more would be very nice.

It definitely needs more. Especially on the blood witch it's already probably the worst ascendency in the game but pretty well requires 4-6 slots taken up with passives.

9 feels to few. Spirit gems (not minion skills) should not take a gemskill slot, 'cause spirit cost is the limit.

Besides all my active skills, i'm running with an empty tame beast for when i encounter a good monster and that already eats one of the slots, and using 2 rings that grants +1 to skill slots isn't helping much We need at least 2 extra gem slots |

I think 10-11 base skill slots would have been the right number. It is still lower than 13 max slots in UI (so you can still fill in Ascendancy and weapon skills) and using Unset Rings you would be able to reach maximum number of skill slots if you would need them for your build.

Seems funny to me that they want players seemingly to have like 7 different active skills they're always using, or at least 5, but then yeah you can just spirit it up and use a bunch of passives, just like POE1, and that actually pushes out the POE2 design...
