Everything is so locked down, I can't make my own build
" How come the experienced poe1 players managed to figure out super strong builds within the first week of release? Theres obviously a lot of overlapping knowledge and experience, if you have 5k hours in poe1 you are not a clueless noob that cant make builds in poe2
I wouldn't say I'm extremely experienced at PoE1, I played a few leagues on and off. But getting to T16 maps is not particularly difficult. I've never killed any of the uber bosses at all, and I've never followed any meta online guide for building, and I always play SSF. And I'm very happy and have fun with PoE1.
In PoE2 though, every cool idea for a skill interaction I have turns out to either not work completely (often I can't tell if it is intended or a bug that the interaction doesn't work) OR there are no good ways to scale it into the end game, or only boring meta ways to scale that will 100% be nerfed in a patch or new. |

I agree on the general direction of the op criticism. Its a bit harsh, because its ea and we are missing classes and belonging weapons, supports, skills, etc. But yeah, this is probably the main reason, why I stopped playing or significant reduced my playtime. |

There are not enough puzzle pieces currently.
Weapon skills are designed to be similar to "Diablo" classes. In PoE 1 you take a skill and you can play it a dozens different ways, scale it a dozens different ways. This is not possible in PoE2. Lets take Maces as an example. In PoE 1 you would identify your build as an Earthquake build. In PoE 2 you need to incorporate multiple different skills into a build and suddenly you have half of the available mace skills into a singular build. So it turns into a class system similar to Diablo. I imagine the weapon swap system was meant to add more choices or variety in builds to differentiate the builds from eachother but i have my doubts that it will turn out this way. I can guarantee that Axe and Sword builds will use Giants blood like any melee will have to do and have dual 2h maces in their weapon swap for hammer of the gods, every single build will do this. |

" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=astBxGTWpyk this video breaks it down pretty good, why scaling is bad in poe2
" I'm trying ES/Contagion now and I know why the skill is called "contagion", because if the witch tries to kill a boss with it, it will take the c*nt ages... |

" The funny thing is that it isn't even good for AoE compared to any other AoE skill in the entire game, even Hexblast in the same category. The only thing it has going for it is that sometimes you can drag a mob around and keep spreading the contagion, maybe saving a few clicks, but who cares if every other build wipes the screen (or multiple screens) instantly in 1 click. |

" Yep these are some of the problems! I've literally abandoned characters half way through when I suddenly realised that like conversions didn't work like in PoE1, or like I can't get enough skill levels while also getting enough spirit etc. Every new thing I get an idea for it just doesn't work unless it's just archmage and use a main damage spell intended for damage. |

i know this will not help you with your situation but you throwing clouds at a wall.
the current build diversity is gated behind the fact that not even half of the skills are in the game right now. ofc this leads to incomplete, clunky and in some cases bad builds. this is why they do EARLY ACCESS (think many people just forget this fact) but to compare your skill to do a complete t16 viable (so in terms of poe2 a t1 able, because t16 in poe1 is nothing hard tbh) char for poe1, with the abillity to do the same thing here with only half content half skills half mobs half uniques, half everything.. is just EXTREME self-overestimation :D Last edited by Krogbarg#7566 on Jan 18, 2025, 7:31:15 AM

" i dont know why people think "okay doing some builds with maces, bows or staffs right now doesnt work that good, but surely it will work if axes and swords are in the game" yes, there are weapons and skills missing, but the problem is on supports side, not skill side. |
