-20% Attack speed on mace unique is everything you need to know about devs being disconnected
Basically just that.
There are many things that show how unaware devs are about how their own game works. They add some damage to a mace but reduce attack speed by 20% making that item even more useless then before. The audacity to call this a buff. They were even surpriced to hear that warrior got all the worst things in the game. We all need to play other games for a while. It's as if the people making the act/map content and the people making the skills and player mechanics are sitting in different countries and never talk to each other.

This weapon is most likely THE worst example you can pick for your argument.
Brynhand's is a weapon for the very early game, Act 1 Normal and maybe the earlier parts of Act 2. Maybe! But by Act 2, chances are high to get a better mace simply from gambling. At that point in the game, during Act 1, the reduced attackspeed of the weapon really doesn't matter. Almost all maces at that point can only be used for big slow slam attacks which, with the higher basedamage of the weapon that is on-par with a twohanded mace, will be enough to oneshot almost all regular mobs, especially if you get stuff like aftershocks. And since all those attacks have fixed attacktimes of 1 second or more, which you cannot reduce significantly at that point in the game, the reduced attackspeed on the weapon is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if your weapon can hit once a second or 0.8 times a second, you will slam once every two to three seconds either way. It doesn't matter. Neither does it matter that your wind-up time MAY be a bit slower, since at that point in the game nothing can kill you in that time that couldn't kill you exactly as fast if you had a slightly shorter wind-up. What actually matters is, that this is a one-handed mace that you can equip at level 1, with the damage of a twohanded mace for level 11. So you can wear a shield right from the start and you have WAY more defence. So you are way tankier and still deal comparable damage to using a big fucking hammer. And before you say "oh but you are extremely unlikely to find Brynhand's in the early game so what you say here is wrong!" No, you aren't very likely to find it on your first character of a league in Act 1. But you might find it in Act 3. And at that point you wouldn't equip it anyways, with or without the reduced attackspeed. It's designed for Act 1. It's designed to be used on your second or third character, during Act 1 Normal. And that is all you should argue about in regards to this weapon - how it is likely to perform in Act 1 Normal. Additionally, before you accuse me of white-knighting, I am only pointing out that this weapon is probably THE worst example for your point about the unique-buffs being inconsequential. That's all. " Cheers. At least one person with some good rational arguments. People here on the forum just feel to entitled and think gamedesign is easy as pie. Gamedesign is literally like policy. You can only make good decissions, if you understand the whole system. And many people here don't think about the whole system. They just see something they don't like and think if GGG would change it in their desired way, it would solve the problem, not understanding anything about balancing at all. And if you try to explain this, you get accused of white-knightning or being a GGG fanboy. People should just calm down... |

" GGG has never been a fan of melee... ever. They only really started even LOOKING at melee a couple years ago. The game was almost entirely bow and spells until that point. Visit my Steam profile here: https://steamcommunity.com/id/TheBaconOverlord/

" Game design IS like policy. You have to plan it and get second and third eyes on it to make sure it's feasible and plausible and even get the opinion of people that aren't in your echo chamber before you implement it. That's... not happening with GGG. They have a "vision" and they are going to stick to it no matter how many players they lose... In POE 1 they could do that since they were self-funded. In POE 2 they have a major investor that won't stand for that long. Ten Cent isn't used to these tactics. If I were them I would be very nervous right about now. " You are on every post, claiming to know very internal things about a company. Either you work there and are trying to sabotage them, or you don't and should probably stfu about inner workings you don't understand. Fun fact: just because those second or third eyes aren't YOURS doesn't make them wrong, get off your high horse. |

" Internally?? Guy, everything I post is common sense. It's not "magic" to see how many bots there are in the game when the playerbase doesn't dip below a certain level on peak vs. off-peak hours. Plus you don't understand the second and third sets of eyes... it's to make sure you're not making a decision without reading the room... Talk about being out of touch though. No other online ARPG has exp penalties (as an example) for obvious reasons... which proves my point. Visit my Steam profile here: https://steamcommunity.com/id/TheBaconOverlord/

" Whatever you mean by "these tactics" I am not quite sure, but I don't think that's a really reasonable take. Tencent bought GGG in May 2018 with the whole process being initiated in 2016 afaik, so they had at least 6 years to get used to how GGG does things. So I don't think a few months in an Early Access version would make that much of a difference for either Tencent or GGG to get used to each others company policies? That really seems like a big leap of logic. I am serious here and actually curious. Can you point me to an actual genuine internal document or official statement about the degree of influence of Tencent on the development process of PoE 2 by either party? Like, something from either GGG or Tencent? I would love some clarification on that. Hold on to yer shite load o´ bloody barnacles on me arse-cockles, me hearty! " It's amazing how you can post "common sense"......and be so very....very wrong. Starting anew....with PoE 2
