1-portal gameplay incentivizes playing SC like it's HC
They are trying to find a way for level 100 not to be a handout that everyone gets despite dying 1000 times by playing glass canon sillyness. (Watch their interviews where jonathan basically said this in different words)
I personally love the XP loss, because it gives us a tiny bit of the HC challenge, just at the end, but 100000x less consequenxe. (Losing a few hours, instead of all playtime on the character) I undwrstand many dont like xp loss. I personally like it and hope they keep it in. |

" It's more than just XP loss. You lose the waystone plus whatever extra mechanics the map had on it. You also lose whatever loot you didn't manage to pick up. And given some of the map sizes and layouts you lose a ton of time as well when you have to run the whole thing again. It's overly punitive especially when one shot form something you didn't see from either off the screen or that got lost in all the visual clutter. As such it doesn't encourage players to test their limits, but pushes them to play safe. If you want those rewards from a juicy mechanic you better play it safe on your waystone or not over juice those towers because one chance is all you get. |

" Except it's not exciting. It's just tedious and annoying. The things that make hardcore exciting for those folks don't actually apply here because most of them don't happen. All it really does here is cause the game to actively promote playing it safe and not taking risks, which is most definitely not exciting. |

" Except it doesn't do that. You can still get there if you put in enough time. It just makes it super annoying so people get bored and go play a game that doesn't want to actively waste their time so much. PoE2 is a game that fundamentally doesn't respect my time. That's not "challenge". That's tedium, and people love to falsely equate the two despite challenge being overcome by skill (which requires being able to practice fights to get better) and tedium being overcome by throwing time at it. " If the xp loss is there to make level 100 a challenge than let it start at level 90. The "casuals" will finish their build around level 90 anyway and the achiver will still have the hard way to get level 100. |

There's certainly something to be said for the fact that have played and would play HC and SC at different times, but the distinction feels like its dying because I basically need to play my SC characters like my HC characters anyway.

" They should obviously make the HC servers allow multiple deaths without ending hardcore mode, because that would let them experience a nice, relaxing bit of less stressful gameplay. Just like they signed up for. |
