Not enough appropriate-level Waystones are dropping

"
Not enough waystones of my current progress are dropping. I am now on Tier 9 but have run out of waystones to keep progressing my waystone progress.

...

Please consider increasing the drop rate of appropriate or higher-level waystones.

I agree with your experience. Not enough waystones.

POE1 did not have this issue if you just played and progressed your atlas, the nodes which make maps drop would be on the way to other content activating nodes.

I feel that there should be a new reward/incentive for clearing the map of all mobs. And that is a Waystone drop of at least the same tier as what you're in.

A simple enough mechanic that requires a bit of a slog (given the size of the maps) and gives an appropriate reward.

Uhh yeah it did. Early on in PoE (back when maps got introduced) people were using exalts on maps even though exalts were very rare. It was simply needed to sustain and even then it was rough. It was waaay harder than in PoE2. There has been several leagues after where the sustain was a little rough to those that didn't understand the atlas-setups/farming strats.

Sustain is not a problem in PoE2 currently if you don't waste higher tier waystones on travel nodes/towers. They just need a better way of telling the players about how to properly increase the drop chance so newer players can learn it. I think part of the problem has been the tower areas not showing properly. If they did it would hopefully be more intuitive that clearing out "bad maps" with lower tier waystones would be beneficial before using tablets to juice the remaining food ones. Also maps containing bosses should have info that they have bonuses to map drops from boss.

Don't need to complicate it. Just use your highest waystone find maps of the highest tier on deadly boss nodes. Along with atlas, and beating the bosses, that's all I had to do. I didn't even know about the reforging bench until after finishing T15.

Map bosses will drop higher maps to help with sustain.

Just use alchs or regal, no need to exalt unless you can afford it and have Grueling Journey atlas passive.

I really appreciate everyone's tips to get more waystones! You're all extremely helpful!

However, it's still an opportunity for Grinding Gear Games to simplify something that shouldn't be so complex and murky. I shouldn't have to do a transmute, aug, regal, multiple exalts, then corrupt just to be allowed to continue the only endgame activity available. I shouldn't have to be forced to only spec my atlas a certain way to start to increase my chances of waystones. And neither should reforging or using certain tablets be required to allow me to continue the endgame.

I had actually googled reforging earlier and was faced with a dilemma -- I had three tier 8 waystones. Should I exalt them all and run all three of them in hopes of getting a tier 9 waystone? or should I reforge them and risk losing it, then having to drop down to using tier 7 waystones? I shouldn't need be faced with such a dilemma to simply continue playing -- it feels overly unnecessary and punitive.

You're better off trading for maps instead of wasting exalts on them. Although...GGG did nothing to alleviate the horrid, "Hey, lvl100 guy with mirrored items, I'd like to buy your tier9 waystone for 1 exalt."
After using the advice and tips of everyone -- particularly the one about creating a rare waystone with corruption to create +500% chance of waystone drop and using it in a map with a deadly boss, and seeing at least 8 equal or higher level waystones drop all at once, I was much happier.

After this experience, my primary feedback is to educate new players to PoE2 that they need to enhance and use their waystones strategically. Many players are coming from Diablo IV, where they can endlessly attempt difficult encounters without needing to worry about such a mechanic, and they might freak out about running out of waystones (like I did).

I also suspect that finding videos and articles about juicing up the map is not going to be one of the first things players search for.

I'm still not a fan of needing to strategize a path to continue playing in an appropriate-difficulty endgame, but it's definitely much better after learning from everyone here.

Thanks again, everyone!
I am at the same point in ssf. I am 83 on t9 quest with 2 completed but only have access to t5 maps. Followed numerous tips and tricks to try to prevent me from falling behind and was doing ok until my last 2 t10 maps dropped only a t9 and then I died on that t9 map leaving me with the t5 because I had already combined previous lower maps. So I guess I can either spend a few hours running lower maps for negligible experience in the hopes I can get some relevant drops and build my stash back up or not. I'm currently opting for not wasting my time on that. I am not willing to spend hours of my time just for a chance to get to a place where I can then progress my character. I have other games to play and things to do so if this is the intended implementation of this system it is just bad in my opinion and I have deep concerns for my longevity. I understand I likely did not min/max all options for map drops but I did pick all the atlas waystone multipliers as I went. I was just playing the game. I was aware of juicing with the assumption that the map juicing was to get chances at better/more loot, not that you needed to do specific maps with specific things to just keep up with the basic map levels that you need to play in a meaningful way. I guess I also don't understand why we can only buy t5 and below and not something equivalent to our current level. It just seems to be a problem for no reason. I really like the game and am hoping that this is an unintended issue that will be addressed asap. Until then I'll likely continue an alt or 2 waiting on a hopefuly positive update............
