Life vs energy shield question
" that's very extreme, that's like a 1:3 ratio i do agree that playing melee does put you in more danger, but that is crazy given the defensive utility warriors have. Buff the amount of life armor items give you Since life is not a base stat and cant scale from modifiers. Last edited by TwitchGLHFsport#2155 on Feb 11, 2026, 1:34:46 PM

the Logic is that GGG decided that ES IS OP THE best option and everything else sucks thats basically it .

There is only 1 thing that could make an energy shield build OP...
+spell level modifiers. |

" I like this approach. Perhaps ES have inherent ties to HP As a base without CI, Hp:ES is like 1:4 max, That means to have 8000 ES, u need at least 2000hp. With CI, the ratio is 1:10000. So a maximum of 10k ES. It's still extremely powerful tho. |

Bring life between 4-8k points. No less than 4k to all classes.

I don't think ES should be tied to HP with some forced ratio. If anything, tie it to mana. It's literally an ENERGY shield - it's magic duct tape, not a second cardiovascular system.
That said, ES + CI right now is completely unhinged. I genuinely don't understand why it was built like this. I just swapped from Witch Infernalist (pure minions) to Abyssal Lich. Damage feels basically the same. I lost a tiny bit of minion count since Infernalist had that huge life reservation -> spirit scaling, but Abyssal Lich hands me a jewel socket passive I can turn into more minion damage anyway. So the "cost" is basically a rounding error. And here's the part that makes it hilarious. I now have 1 life, still have the same ES, and I took "mana instead of life" so my "life" is mana. Minion DPS is the same, total pool (mana+ES) is the same, but now I also have CI. Which deletes one of the most annoying defensive problems in endgame - chaos resistance - like it never existed. And I'm not randomly getting one-shot anymore, or doing the classic "something sneezed on me and now I'm bleeding to death behind a pillar" routine. I'm not saying "nerf it into the ground". I'm saying this is the first time it feels like I'm allowed to actually play the game instead of treating every white mob like it's holding a loaded lottery ticket. |

" I've been thinking about this alot, and I think ES should just be the pure alternative to HP, and they both should exist as IMPLICIT, not Prefix. Therefore, defense can now use all 3 prefix. As for INT base, there's a need to have a less broken defense replacing ES. EV is entropy, but poe2 deflection greatly address it's weakness. AR are weak against BIG PHYS Hits, 'AR also Ele' does absolutely nothing, because it cannot replace Res. Res still needs to be capped and Ele Hit has never been the problem. Now, I think the 3rd defense need to be weak against multiple small hits, but effective against large hit in between some duration, basically opposite of AR. I'm thinking something like stackes of barriers, all barrier have like 500 pool or something, and will be consumed even if it took 1 damage. Barriers shall have ties with Mana where they got recovered by mana spent. Prefix is like +10 barriers or idk, haven't figured out the right values. Of course, now all defense will work alongside ES/HP ES will consumed first as per usual, but no way to recharge except CD. Hits against barrier does not interrupt the countdown, hits against HP does interrupt ES countdown/recharge. So, we have much lower ES pool with no recovery options, and a 3rd defense which basically a safeguard after ES which still work against those big hits, once in a while. Therefore, they need to play more carefully, like playing Armour Sorcery Ward Last edited by Exilion99#5481 on Feb 12, 2026, 7:33:07 AM

Please play more pure ES and see how often your HP bar drains within 1 second to poison or bleed.
Are you guys griefing because you died with health, armor, life steal, thorn damage and resistances but thought you were invincible? the most annoying things are the meat patties that follow you around underneath all the animations. Last edited by TwitchGLHFsport#2155 on Feb 12, 2026, 7:54:32 AM

" Dude you are new to this. You don't even play POE1. POE deaths basically revolves with those instakill, those BIG 1 shot, and Ground DOT which only ES can usually tank that. Also, ES have CI which means immune to poison. Bleed bypass ES ONLY when your life is damaged by bleeding hits. That basically means bleed immunity for large ES pool. Remember, in POE2, Bleed requires damaging Life. Last edited by Exilion99#5481 on Feb 12, 2026, 8:12:56 AM
