On death effects

Level 78 in tier 6 maps and died to an on death effect picking up gear. I didn't get better at the game, I didn't learn what killed me, I don't understand what or how to prevent that death, I lost a unique item, high level spirit gem and two rare drops that I was attempting to pick up. This is not making me a better player and is adding nothing except frustration to my POE 2 experience. Please remove these stupid mechanics from the game. You are all far more creative than, "Monster died, better have a thing that could kill a player that's attempting to pick up gear on the ground, which is a core design principal of our game". It's silly. Stop it.

Well you should learn that the on death effect is a AOE attack and you pull away until its clear. You should learn that and its not so bad.
Heavy server lag + on death effects? What could possibly go wrong...?

If they take away death mechanics, what changes about the game negatively? You are quick to point to player skill, so are you saying everyone will be considerably worse at POE2 if they remove these mechanics, and because of that, the game will be less fun? Is dodge rolling away from rare or magic mobs after you kill them, then standing still for a few seconds before looting fun? Is all of that a good time? Maybe you are only used to playing mobile games or something, so that is fun for you, but to me, it's a huge miss.

Suppose GGG, arguably one of the most creative game design studios currently making games, cannot think of a better way to add skill checks that don't directly contradict one of their core philosophies (picking up random loot on the ground). In that case, I'm concerned with POE2's future. However, I think they can figure out a better path forward as I believe they are better than, "Circle on the ground go boom after you kill the monster, so stop playing game and wait to pick up gear that we want you to have or else you die."

TRUE.
I'm okay with death effects but there are three issues:

1) Some are not telegraphed enough.
2) Some are shrouded by environment (trees and pillars failing to get translucent).
3) Being blocked by monsters or terrain (and no teleport / blink / phasing / "invulnerabilty frames" while dodging.

Also some color coding in the mob modifiers would help raise awareness.

The only thong broken IMO is the Water Hag's Hydrosphere auto-killing in a second. Heck, it's a regular monster, not the effing Eater.
+1

No one has any excuse as to why they should be in the game. If I may politely say so, anyone who says "dying to on death effects" is skill issue, is frankly an idiot.
Just because you don't die to them, doesn't make you a better player, same as how reaching max level is not an achievement, so please grow up

Anyway, they should all be promptly removed. Or turn them into pools of oil which you can light on fire to use against enemies. THAT, is how you use on death effects, not some stupid high damage explosion. No one likes Blizzard doing it, so why would ppl like GGG doing it, except for tryhards

Don't listen to the haters. There definitely is some over tuned on death effects. I'm 78% cold res with 2400hp and 1k ES plus 30% less dmg taken from tailwind stacks and 1 cold bomb explosion takes me down to about 500hp. If I get stun locked and get hit by a 2nd I'm dead. The amount of "the floor is lava" in this game is a little too much. It will be tuned for sure. As far as learning from your mistakes, just take Ziz's advice. After killing a rare count to 3 and then loot :)

Pretty stupid but that's the state right now.
Welcome to PoE 2!

Here's a guide on how to play the game:

1. Kill a rare mob
2. Get away from it at least 1 screen away
3. Count to 12
4. Go back and loot

its not stupid to learn that some mobs have on-death effects, to remember what that mob looks like, and when you kill them...to move out of the way.

I would say the dumb people are the ones who keep dying from on-death effects and don't change their gameplay style.
